Sam's attack on Crackers Keenan - The Footy Show

It was interesting to watch Sam get stuck into Peter "Crackers" Keenan tonight on The Footy Show.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Sam saying what he did providing he is willing to go down to Geelong himself and help out with Steven King, Peter Street and our other ruckman.

What does everyone else think?

Go Cats!!

I think hes lost the bloody plot. Is he trying to get sued/sacked?? Thats the most hefty attack on an individual ive heard on the footy show.

In Inside Footy the other week, Crackers reported that he overheard Sam telling Rex Hunt that he was going to sue him over using his image at Rex's fish and chip shop.

Looks like something has been brewing......

As far as I'm aware Crackers Keenan stood down as ruck coach at the end of last year after the GFC told him it was up to him to decide - media work or ruck coach at Geelong. He chose to continue in the media.

So perhaps Sam's criticism was wrong there. In fact, Sam claimed Steven King had gone downhill this year. Perhaps its the exact opposite - Crackers has gone, now King is going downhill. Who knows?

Can you get sued for telling the truth. ;)

I think Sam was dead on, SeinDude. King's performance, or level thereof, is down from years of the recent past, and someone's got to be to blame, and it's not just King himself. Ignore the alleged "attack" on Crackers Keenan-- just ask, have the others in the ruck done the job? Unequivocably, no.......

I think the more controversial thing tonight (other than another Geelong legend, Billy Brownless, in that what-the-hell-was-he-thinking suit) was Sam doing "Street Talk" from Ballarat. Sure, it was a dig at the review in last Saturday's Ballarat Courier, one of my employers, from last week's "Street Talk" segment in Daylesford.

And if anyone's still under the impression that all that frequent Bridge Mall and Sturt Street are loonies and nutcases, I'll just say this...

Sam Newman, if you're reading this, and I suspect you lurk on the boards from time to time, next time you're in Ballarat, my wife Jennifer and I will buy you lunch. Just our token of gratitude to show that there are some decent people in this sleepy little town that prides itself on its history, among other things.

Hey, at least I can give it a shot. :)

Cheers,
William

Forget going. This show is now officially a joke, and I reckon Eddie knows it.

hey wouldn't street talk be great if it were clips of normal people answering serious questions!

Maybe not.

Sam went overboard in his attack on Keenan, but thats Sam. He is paid by GTV9 to create a bit of controversy from time to time. The price Sam has to pay for his highly-paid highly-public lifestyle is that his views probably are not taken seriously by the football world anymore. One can never be sure if Sam is being sincere or just putting on one of his performances.

I think that Sam actually crossed the line from opinion to defamation

In light of the 5AA thing you would have thought that they would be careful

Yet last week Sam had a crack at Rick Lewis saying he would be acceptable to bribes re Collingwood and Trevor made a reference to umpires being quite rich out of Collingwood

Whilst these things were meant as a joke it is typical Eddie lets it go because his mates are saying it but when poor Stephen Rowe does it they throw the book at him.

As far as StreetTalk goes - every place they go to every year they show the idiots - because that's what's funny - street talk with normal people would be boring

People who take offecne really need to stop being so precious.

Was that woman a satanist though, speaking of sacrificing Martina Navratilova?

Correct.Crackers said on 3LO this morning that he's not Geelongs ruck coach anymore. He also said his solictor will listen to Sams outburst before deciding whether to take legal action.

i think it would be better if we just saw breasts. that was a winner for a couple weeks last year or the year before.

each week sam has a dig at someone. he's had a go at geelong, rick lewis, chris grant, corey, krackers + probably a few more this year alone.

its a way of generating your own headlines. don't take anything he says to heart.

The Footy Show is now becomming a forum where clubs can use spin when people at the club can't get their own way through the front door - this is obviously a case in point where some at Geelong would like to see the back end of Crackers but as he is a friend of the coach they can't manage it. Some of what Sam said apperaed to be on the advice of others as he doesn't seem as close to the club as his comments suggested.

If this is true the Footy Show while in a unique position is also playing a dangerous game as they may well find out in this instance????

You'd think that if Newman was going to have a go at Crackers for his ruck coaching you'd think he'd find out if he actually is the Geelong ruck coach. Sam is officially d*ckhead of the year for his little performance.

Sam's had a couple of shots at Crackers in the past, usually over ruck-coaching. I think they hate each other from their days as rivals in the 1970's.

Sam is very proud of his 300 game career with Geelong, but he's very sensitive that he never won a flag. I remember Brereton tormenting him about that on the old Sunday Footy show and it was the one thing that was guarenteed to p*ss Newman off.

I think Keenan played in a flag side (with North?) so Newman is bitterly jealous.

The Footy Show has deteriorated markedly over the last couple of years, Eddie bringing in business buddies and sponsors to discuss their products for 15 minutes, Sam having to outdo each stupid comment and action he makes, Trevor's jokes not hitting the mark, many of them old and outdated.

Sam overstepped the boundary yet again last night, I was unsure whether he was actually serious in his attack of Crackers last night or whether it was his usual outburst to get some controversy and notoriety for the show. The outburst was so extreme I considered that maybe Crackers was in on it and agreed to let Sam attack him on TV, but this doesn't appear the case, and the Footy Show on their ongoing quest for controversy might happen overstepped the mark last night and find themselves in trouble.

Sometimes I wonder whether if Big Kerry was watching the show whether he'd pull the plug on it, I'd say he wouldn't be happy with Eddie if he watched the show. For some reason, if I'm up that late at night (it's on after midnight in Sydney), I continue to watch the show, it's so bad these days but for some reason I'm compulsed to watch!

Keenan isn't Geelong's ruck coach but he does spend time coaching Steven King once a week.

Kerry gets great cross promotion for his products such as Wizasrd Home Loans like last night

Then Sam made some joke about Kerry should set up a telephone comany and Eddie cringed

It seems that attacking Packer is poor form on the footy show.

In general some of it was funny last night but criticims of over commercialism and the Collingwood Footy show are very valid

It was good to see Sam make a joke out of it at one stage, he must realise how much it gets out-of-hand sometimes, a bit like how Eddie feels about some of Sam's comments.
