Firstly, I'd like to make it aware that i'm a massive fan of the World Game being on SBS rather than some blow in network taking over for a big event.

BUT.

The quality of their presenters/commentators is pretty piss weak.

Paul Dempsey has no idea what he's on about and has a **** off annoying voice. constantly making errors, stuttering etc.

Most of their 'analysts' don't even watch football these days and seem to have opinions/facts based on wikipedia profiles and youtube video's.

They offer absolutely no insight whatsoever. Zdrila is about the only one who is any good. Zeljko is a nut job (an entertaining one at that) Zelic has decent ideas but acts as if he was as good as Maradona in his day and basically its his way or the highway. They're there as if they are just to collect a pay cheque and couldn't give a rats toss bag about doing proper research/analysing the games.

Okon is a spud, Basheer has become the Hutchy of SBS (just bobs up everywhere and anywhere and is very annoying, but he actually makes Hutchy seem likeable, maybe because the Hutchwa doesn't have a head that looks like a member) the other guy on the panel now (brazil vs ivory coast) with Dempsey and Okon sounds like the biggest **** ever, no backbone and his feminine voice just kills me inside.

Helm the deep breather is a nightmare to listen too and Basheer and Muscy's bias commentary is horrendous.

**** Tony "The talking corpse" Palumbo off.. can't understand a word he is saying and in all honesty he should be worrying about staying alive, not whether Italy can defend their title.

Les Murray, i'm grateful for everything you've done for the game in Australia but FFS it's time to move on. His opinions are very old school and he has to be the most unprofessional/unaware presenter in the history of television. He is on a direct feed to his field reporters all the time but it's as if they're on a 10 second delay by the way he waits to ask another question

I think that's the best way to put it for me, their coverage is frustratingly unprofessional and sloppy..

They desperately need some new blood. All their "has beens" and blow in presenters have shat me to no end during the WC. There is absolutely no life in their broadcasts. I'm on a local footy show on Channel 31 and even our broadcast is more professional than the tripe they put up.

I know they can't compete with the big networks but **** they could do with Simon Hill, Andrew Orsatti & more Martin Tyler

/rant.

This Helm commentating now is a ********.

Loves Brazil. Has barely mentioned Fabiano handballed- still reffering to him as "the juggler".

Disgraceful. It's getting extremely hard to bare. The guy commentating the Brazil/CIV game was blatantly cheering for Brazil.

Who were the commentators for the England vs Algeria game? They were good but I heard them mentioning ESPN so they're obviously not paid by SBS.

Martin Tyler. The best in the business.

not a fan of his yank sidekick though (downside of him being on ESPN)

You should've heard our boys on RTÉ. And I'm told it was the same in England.

You have to get your tackle out and fap furiously if you're calling a Brazil game. It's part of the broadcaster's charter or something.

Kalac is pretty good value i agree, isn't afraid to speak his mind (most of the time over others) and put his balls on the line.

Can't take him seriously though, every time he criticises someone i can't stop playing that save he fluffed in Germany back in my mind.

Really needs an Andy Harper. Current "analysts" tell you nothing we don't already know. There was no analysis of how we restructured when Kewell went off or when subs were made.

Kalac looks like he's walked off a Dracula movie set and is as useful as he was against Croatia in '06, Zelic grabs a point and drives it home so much to the point of obsession, Zdrilic is half asleep. Thought Foster was going to fall into a blubbering mess after the Ghana game, just ranted patriotic bullshit.

They may as well have a few of us in there.

I don't mind Helm but this morning was a bit overboard. Steve Banyard is quality and Gary Bloom is good. I am liking the English commentators way better than muscat/basheer combo.

Martin Tyler and Ally McCoist did the England vs Algeria game. Not sure if you are talking about Ally but he is Scottish not American.

Zeljko Kalac's hair deserve's it's own thread i think.

that thing is insane!

Foster and his outbursts have been the highlight of the coverage for me.

On Friday night at half time of the Serbia Germany game it looked like he was going to fly in to a rage. At full time his eyes were bloodshot and I swear I heard his voice break once or twice like he was going to cry.

Then on Saturday I was expecting him to be violently ill with nevers before and during the game. I was expecting him t cry afterwards, but they don't leave the camera on him for long enough.

That's even after his massive "let's march down to the dressing rooms and Sack Pim on the spot" rant earlier in the week.

Classic stuff.

Spider says some funny stuff. His first line is always outragous.

They are really awful, and the "analysts" prove why we couldn't make a world cup in the 90's they have no idea whatsoever. Muscat almost broke out into the Fozzy cheer (Uruguay shootout) when Holman scored the other night, I know the audience they are commentating for is 99.97% Australian supporters but come on show some professionalism

I don't know how the hell Muscat got the gig the blokes a complete disgrace as a commentator his comments throughout the Ghana game towards the ref (although the ref didnt do the best job) were poor. I didn't think i could hate Muscat anymore than i do as a player. I was disappointed with Basheer usually he calls it down the middle as well but i think he was a bit one eyed.

There is some sheer brilliance in this thread, but this made be laugh uncontrollably. :D :thumbsu:

I've taken to watching streams of a lot of the games lol.

Tyler and Effan Ekoku (nfi how to spell his name properly) on a 15 second delay is far less annoying than having to listen to Helm.

And yes, their analysts are horrifically bad. I don't mind Zelic that much even if he does come accross as a bit of a FIGJAM though.

Who was the guy commentating the NZ Slovakia game? he had some breathing issues whilst commentating was a laugh at first but damn annoying after 10 minutes of it.

It's real hard for these guys on SBS because IMO Fox Sports have a really good team with Hill, Bosnich and Slater (and the other guy who takes over for Hill, and the girl with no idea is very easy on the eye). Throw in Harper and even Ang P(cant be bothered trying) and SBS was always going to come up short.

While they all may favour the Socceroos none are affraid (or too one-eyed) to tell it like it is. And most football fans want to hear it like that

The English commentator (not sure of his name) for the NZ v Italy game was great. You could tell he was gunning for the Kiwis but so were most people so you couldn't really blame him for it.

The SBS studio team leave a bit to be desired. Losing Simon Hill to Foxsports was a big loss for them as he's a quality host.

.

:D How about those bags under his eyes? Could almost be mistaken for a ball-bag.

Kalac is a knob, his comments are generally very anti-Australia, it's like he is still bitter or something.

I love Ned, the way he talks and nods while smiling it's like he thinks he's just figured out the cure for cancer.

Who the **** is the Pommy guy? It's like SBS have thought 'gee, Simon Hill was a success, let's bring over another random English bloke". He is awful, and I can't stop thinking that piece of carpet on his head is real or not.

Bring back Rale Rasic.
