Martin Tyler is the pre eminent football commentator in the world, and by football I mean all forms of football.
I can see whats happening, I don't need commentators saying player x marks the ball, player x kicks the ball, I can see that already, add to the broadcast don't replicate it.

Tyler is king when it comes to English football commentary.

Those two calls just some up Tyler to a tee. Lets the pictures speak louder than words, while also adding some great commentary that ads to the moment.

Simon Hill is the same, his call of the Japanese game in '06 was superb. A shame we didn't have Hill for the World Cup.

Great deflected goal.

I haven't seen someone miskick/scuff the ball so much and score.

Supreme athlete with above average talent but there are many more talented players on the ball - it's just the combination of his superior athleticism and the above average talent he has on the ball that makes his the success he is.

Nowhere near Messi's level - Robben is more gifted with the ball at his feet as well (better shot on goal) - better technique both controlling the ball and on the shot.
His problem is obvious and it should be considered when comparing the players.
There is no way Ronaldo has the ability to do what Robben did against Manchester United probably only a few players in the world would genuinely have the ability to that without relying on ridiculous luck/reward for their audacity to try something they don't have the ability to pull off.

Anyway.
 
Well that's very true, but "only a very few players in the world" have that athleticism combined with on the ball skill you're talking about there as well.

He is a unique talent and it's perverse to carp about what only one or two people who aren't him can do, while ignoring what he can do that they can't.

Especially when no-one even mentioned any of this and only posted a goal he scored once.

Even if he is a massive w***er.

Laslo and Fozz are a comedy act. I almost wanted to see Australia lose every game so Fozz would go ape shit and dribble on himself every night for the next month. You just know what what he really wants is Frank Lowy to finally come to his senses and offer him a few million a year to parade up and down the line looking sensational in a Zegna 3 piece number. He would be knee deep in clunge over there. One of the greats.
 
I hate Les Murrays voice more than the noise of a vuvuzela. I also have a strange compulsion to want to punch him in the jaw which is weird because he doesnt really have a punchable head or anything
 
I must say listening to and old man talk about the modern game is something that really irratates me. I dont question his knowledge for the game but he is way past his used by date

Yes, but what do you think of the commentary?!!!

BTW, there are only a handful of people who have Messi's ball control. I can only think of Iniesta/Xavi/Robben who are just about on the same level, so that's no shame but there's a reason Messi and Ronaldo are considered to be potential legendary players rather than just world class.

The quality of their presenters/commentators is pretty piss weak.

Paul Dempsey has no idea what he's on about and has a **** off annoying voice. constantly making errors, stuttering etc.

They offer absolutely no insight whatsoever. Zdrila is about the only one who is any good. Okon is a spud, Basheer has become the Hutchy of SBS (just bobs up everywhere and anywhere and is very annoying, but he actually makes Hutchy seem likeable, maybe because the Hutchwa doesn't have a head that looks like a member) the other guy on the panel now (brazil vs ivory coast) with Dempsey and Okon sounds like the biggest **** ever, no backbone and his feminine voice just kills me inside.

Helm the deep breather is a nightmare to listen too and Basheer and Muscy's bias commentary is horrendous.

**** Tony "The talking corpse" Palumbo off.. can't understand a word he is saying and in all honesty he should be worrying about staying alive, not whether Italy can defend their title.

Les Murray, i'm grateful for everything you've done for the game in Australia but FFS it's time to move on. His opinions are very old school and he has to be the most unprofessional/unaware presenter in the history of television. He is on a direct feed to his field reporters all the time but it's as if they're on a 10 second delay by the way he waits to ask another question

I think that's the best way to put it for me, their coverage is frustratingly unprofessional and sloppy..

They desperately need some new blood. All their "has beens" and blow in presenters have shat me to no end during the WC. There is absolutely no life in their broadcasts. I'm on a local footy show on Channel 31 and even our broadcast is more professional than the tripe they put up.

I know they can't compete with the big networks but **** they could do with Simon Hill, Andrew Orsatti & more Martin Tyler

I was never Something for Kate's biggest fan but he isnt that bad...
 
I was speaking with a fella at the pub last night. He doesn't normally watch football/soccer but thought that watching the World Cup would be good.
He reckons that he has been put right off soccer by the way "..that p*&$#/r Foster ..." keeps whingeing about all the teams and just complains and carries on and then the game comes on and the soccer players carry on exactly the same way!
He also said ; "....and what's this **** ing formation shit he goes on about?".
You know, this bloke's right! All the people that tuned in that are novices to the world game, would be scratching their heads wondering why SBS wouldn't be trying to portray soccer in the best light possible.
