Has anyone, who may be a little closer to the club than I, happened to hear anything with regards to this topic.

I know he's out for the NAB Cup but Balme said after his surgery he would be back in full training within 1-2 weeks.

I find it very unlikely he will play for the 1st half of the year, and yes, maybe even the season. It's a real shame for the kid, for something like this to happen at such a promising time in his career, but the best thing is to just allow him to make a full recovery.

Really no need to rush him back, the Cat's defence can and will, I'm certain, hold up without him. The only affect it will have is Scarlett's attacking mobility will be dampered somewhat, because he'll need to control CHB as well. But such issues aren't overly concerning. He's done it every other year aside from last so no need to worry in the least.

Against team's like Essendon (Lloyd and Lucas) and Brisbane (Bradshaw and Brown) the match committee will have some tough decisions, but the strength of our defence as a whole and the ability of those further afield should ensure non-too-many troublesome encounters.

Taylor has a mature head on his shoulders and decent size to boot, he'll step in and help to fill at least some of the void.

Take it with a grain of salt but a bloke just called SEN to say he was talking to the med staff on the weekend and Egan is unlikely to play this year. Hird's injury which was similar took over a year to get over.

I don't think the med staff would go saying that kind of thing to randoms

100% agreed.

But as has been witnessed in the past these types of injuries historically take quite a long time to get over. With Hird, it took a year and Egan with that 100+kg frame he's carrying, who knows. Proper treatment and conditioning might see him back relatively early, but fingers crossed.

Some good news from the Geelong Advertiser:

GEELONG coach Mark Thompson has admitted he might have to revise his plans on how to use superstar Gary Ablett over the pre-season.
Ablett played less than a quarter of Geelong's opening round NAB Cup win over Melbourne on Saturday after suffering a knock to his left calf.
However, Thompson said after the game the injury was ``nothing to worry about'' and that his lack of game time may force the coaching staff to reconsider whether to rest him from this Saturday's quarter-final clash with St Kilda in Canberra.
``We probably didn't plan on playing Gary next week, but he's only played a quarter this week so we'll have to sit down and work it all out,'' Thompson said.
``We only planned to play Brad Ottens for half a game and, to be honest, we played (Tom) Harley and (Cam) Mooney a fraction more than what we hoped, but generally our management of players went as planned.
``So, I'm not sure what we'll do next week.''
Football manager Neil Balme yesterday said the club was undecided what it would do with Ablett, last year's best and fairest winner.
Thompson said premiership stars Joel Corey, Max Rooke, Corey Enright and last year's AFL rising star winner Joel Selwood were likely to play against the Saints while All-Australian full-back Matthew Scarlett would also come under consideration.
The club said Scarlett had recovered well from an arthroscopy on his left knee late last month, but Thompson said he and midfielder Paul Chapman were more likely to resume in a fortnight.
The Saints also have a host of stars who missed their win over Richmond in line to play this Saturday including Luke Ball, Lenny Hayes, Sam Gilbert and Jason Gram but Nick Riewoldt is expected to again be rested.

He's obviously been in full-training and training well for the past couple of weeks, that's a relief.

I'd never gotten the impression that his surgery was anything more than minor cleanup work, so no surprise that he'd be back on the track pretty quickly.

On the Egan thing, I wish the speculation and rumours would cease. We already know that he wont be playing for about half of the season - anything beyond that is sheer guesswork on anyone's part.
