Geez this war is going to really help the Libs…I can see it from a mile away
When the biggest flow on effect for the average Aussie is going to be higher fuel prices I'm not so sure about that.

It is a very long way away and it is unlikely to end in all out war. It will be out of the news cycle soon enough.

If China do something stupid that is a problem.

the problem is if he gets sufficient bounce and a reset that lasts the duration of a campaign…

he will need supreme luck around timing… and I keep telling myself that it is peoples lived experience that will decide the election… but even so, I can’t help but feel some apprehension

He’s saying all the right things in this press conference , I haven’t disagreed with anything yet

But it should be a common sense approach with Russia so I don’t give him too many bonus points

In the past fortnight shirko has -

Been defied on the floor by members of his own party

Been chastised in full view of the nation by our top intelligence official

Made himself look a right donkey over the Sydney trains debacle

Why haven't they knifed him yet ?....
So a standard fortnight by this government standards.

domestic pressure relieved

allows him to walk away from pesky questions

allows him to create a brand new statesman character.

makes me sick.

Yes, if anything Russia/Ukraine escalations rising will lead to a spike in oil prices.

While it will be short-lived, inflation + oil prices are already a millstone around ScoMo's neck, so he doesn't need them to be higher for longer.

Plus Russia is a foreign policy issue, not a national security one - unless Russia decides to launch an ICBM at New York, which won't happen. Those don't decide national elections.

Also, Putin's style of war is to recognise breakaway republics (already done) or annex them, before moving in to opposition territory and beating the opposition around for a bit before retreating. I highly doubt he'll take Kiev - that means he'll have to occupy it for a prolonged period of time, and he knows all too well the consequences of attempting that, especially against a hostile local populace.

I call this the 'Georgia template', although Putin executed it slightly differently in Georgia itself (recognising South Ossetia/Abkhazia after the war).

fu** these corrupt campaigners and their "gas led recovery"

Can do capitalism = blocking corporate take overs that threaten gas and coal and gifting millions of tax payers money to mates who will end up with stranded assets :mad::mad:

Why do the so called 'free market' libs hate it when the free market goes against their donors?

They are aware that capitalism punishes businesses who cannot adapt with the times?

It really makes you think that the libs are not for the free market but only for crony capitalism.

Considering the number of US Conservatives on the side of Putin, I'm not sure how it'll attract votes in Australia.

I mean, who is Scumo supporting?

It is Ukraine v Russia after all. Its in Europe after all.

So apart from a lot of wind bagging, what will Scumo try with it?.

Most people will support the underdog in this anyway.

If you're worried about him 'saying all the right things' all the way up until May, I wouldn't stress too much.

Nobody in his base cares about this war because it will have zero effect on their lives (maybe more expensive petrol).
Only the deluded think there’s going to be “world war 3”. He’ll play it up and try to milk it but the biggest issue he has is he couldn’t protect the country during its biggest time of need since WW2 so how does he keep us safe from this? The clown has pushed this country into trying to be part of something that we shouldn’t be having anything to do with. It won’t and never will be his “children overboard” moment.

Why do the press even bother with the pretence that this is a “government”?

The sooner this Coalition pretend government is called out by everyone as nothing but enablers for the fossil fuel industry, the sooner this country can start to recover from the phcucking-over it’s been dealt since 2013.

That image makes me uncomfortable.

It's almost as though all of these journalists and comic writers think that using steriotype ironically means they're not still using steriotype. If Morrison/Dutton are racist for making these comments, why are they - the journalists - not also racist for pulling a 'shoe's on the other foot'?

Because they’re terrified of a truly free market.

I don't know. How many people give a shit about Russia and Ukraine?

Hid whole anti china stuff has fallen flat. This will go the same direction.

it could allow Morrison to break from the miasma of lies, empty announcements, cheap stunts and intra party chaos.

it could allow a reset as he could wriggle away from the messes and the transparent wedges and present a “Scott Morrison, PM” image.

we hope he doesn’t pull it off and it may not be sufficient anyway. but frankly, only a circuit breaker of this nature could save him.
