What about Abbott? Going for the throat worked wonders for him.

Granted, that was a decade ago, and he was helped greatly by Rudd & Gillard being at each other's throats during that time, but still...
Do you think that would work again? They applied the full court press to Andrews for little avail.

The Vic Libs lacked an aggressor in the Abbott mould.

Granted, one of the inquisitors was Credlin, but the context was different. Credlin's aggressive, but she was going up against a fairly popular State Premier with a big majority, not somebody trying to keep a minority government together.

Context matters.

Morrison is going on the attack. He's painting himself as a wartime leader in a time of crisis:

Remember, he fell in popularity in the bushfires but then rose at the start of Covid. It was only in 2021 that the Libs polling numbers fell as Covid dragged on. Morrison knows that Tampa and then 9/11 saved Howard. Now the pandemic, and all the negative connotations he gained from that, has subsided he is going to use national security to paint himself as a "Decisive leader", standing up to Putin and the media will fall for it.

I think there will be an inevitable turnaround in the Liberal's polling from now on.
Don’t think it’s inevitable but it’s what he’s going for…

It’s a different world now. A lot are conditioned to be selfish people so cost of living & housing affordability is way above the care for anyone else let alone any other country.
and those with awareness/ care for other countries probably more politically aware and therefore aware how much our do nothing spend big on defence for no actual output government have done

If Australia was in a proper war and the libs were leading, then I expect the libs to not be leading in a month.

The pants shitting, friedpan, mad potato can't lead for shit in peace, they are liabilities in a war.

Cosplay Canavan, Fatty Palmer, Gina, Joyce, Taylor and the rest of the libs/nats would flog any resource to our enemies if it got them a quick buck.

My concern in this regard is Albo.

He won't conduct a 2019-style campaign, and he won't make many obvious mistakes, but does he have the personality to really grab ScoMo by the throat when it's most needed? Like when talking about the people who've died to OMICRON due to ScoMo's negligence. I know debates aren't widely watched anymore, but he could also go for the throat via a powerful, stirring YouTube or TV ad.

Does he have that in him? He's shown signs of it, but can he bring it to bear often enough?
If he can keep the focus domestic, on cost of living pressures, on the govt s many failings, it’s untrustworthiness - then he really doesn’t have to go for the throat. Morrison will continue to make mistakes because he doesn’t like pressure and doesn’t plan well.

Plenty of surrogates, plenty of enemies that sense the opportunity to stick the knife in…

He is better off demonstrating calm readiness With a bit of niggle or mongrel here or there.

I’m a Gen X. I’ve always realised the good old days weren’t as good as we all thought. It’s just nostalgic glasses, best examples are watching footy on YouTube fmd there was no tactics full stop just get it down to the big bloke at FF as quick as possible. FFS some boomers still think if you wear pink you must be a girl or “****” 😂😂😂laughable. I don’t think I’ll ever pine for yesteryear. I have a way better connection with my family if I move with the times. Imo the issue that eventuates with boomers is boomers own doing with telling everyone how hard they’ve done it, how they were so smart with investment when a fair few just were born at the right time, how they try to piss on everything that a younger generation does etc

But like I’ve said while that may be the majority of boomers there is a decent size minority that is not like it and like you, having a good understanding of our younger generations issues these days and lifestyles. I do worry about how society and political parties will view younger boomers when they become a minority as I’ve said on here a few times imo the LNP will use what’s left of that generation to demonise to get a few votes from younger generations.

I sympathise with those who face difficulties now and pine for the past, but unfortunately the human memory tends to emphasise the good at the expense of the bad, so the past never quite occurred in the glorious, pollyanna-ish manner that you remember.

Far from it, in fact.

There are some fruits from the past which have been lost, but we've grown new fruits in the meantime. It's up to us, on both the national and global level, to decide how to make use of those fruits in a way that benefits us all.

Credlin is an idiot. Her question to Andrew’s were about 20 minutes long. It was a complete joke - no one knew what the hell she was on about

The biggest issue in the coming election is women.

It has not started yet but it will. There will be marches, there will be demonstrations, there will be strikes, and Morrison will lose his shit like he always does.

Woman are Morrison’s kryptonite. He has no idea how to deal with them. And there will be millions of them on the streets.

Any other time probably. But the general population thinks (knows) he failed during the bushfires and failed covid. Won't get a third chance and will probably swing it the other way from already shown incompetence

Whatever Albanese does, it will be painted as either too much or too little by the mainstream media.

Albo should just focus on what he's doing. Quietly, continuously pointing out the governance failures of Morrison. Doesn't need to yell, doesn't need confected zingers. People have been paying attention this election cycle. It'll be an election on substantive issues people have been paying attention to. A few simple messages:

1.Pay is not rising as fast as inflation - Number 1 point. Play the footage of Corman saying that's what the LNP want. - Hip pocket. Bring an element of fear to it like: inflation is taking off because of Govt frivilous spending, interest rates are about to go up too, yet wages are staying flat because of LNP policies. Fear of hip-pocket is the biggest winner, always.
2.The Govt wasted lots of money on Jobkeeper and didn't order vaccines fast enough. - Health and Safety -
3. Hating women and corruption - goes to character, your honour.
