Yes we had a win and the Addy proclaims "WE'RE BACK" and they are talking finals.

But come on lets be serious we beat a very average team who played poorly (no ofence to Carlton we all understand your problems). But we have a lot to make up for and are still 2 games out of the 8.

So don't get to exited everyone.

If we win this week against Port Adelaide AT HOME we should get a bit happier, but then the real test will be the week after vs the Buldlogs at teh Dome which will be a game to decide our season.

So lets just see if we can back it up again this week before anyone gets exited.

As an aside good to see McCarthy get some goals and King a few kicks and others played well, back it up against a real team this week lads.

Dont worry incredible Hulk, I did not get excited when we were made premiership favourites (well not for real anyway ;) ), I will not get excited over caning Carlton.

Looooong way to go yet. :thumbsu:

ps. When you are at games and get mad, do you by any chance turn green and burst out of your clothing? :D

I remember when Hawthorn beat us i got a little angry towards a Hawthorn supporter and at that point i was very close to doing the turning green thing and throwing him off the stand. I was a little angry.

Stupid twits. I suppose if THEY were being beaten they would have hung around and clapped the d***heads off (while the team of course was completing a lap of honour of the ground)?? :D

We still didn't look that good in the first term and without Gary Ablett's sublime first quarter and if Carlton made more of it's chances they would of had their tails up and it might have been a much closer game then it was.

The real test is this weekend. If we lose to Port you they will leap frog us and you can just about forget a spot in the 8. This weekend should be built as a Prelim by bomber.

I agree and have been saying this is several threads since the Carlton win. Yes we have won 3 out of 4 in the last month. But we beat Essendon, Freo, & Carlton and got flogged by the probable premiers this year. We haven't beaten any side in the top 6. There is nothing in our prerformances to suggest we are ready to contest against the top sides. We are a middle of the road side at present. If we do win the next 2 games (and particularly the doggies game) then I may start to believe they have lifted a cog. But until then I am not going to let empty hype influence me

The only person (thing) that needs to settle down is the Addy - they are a disgrace. I haven't heard one supporter suggest that the 3 wins out of the last 4 games means that we are now certainties for the finals.

There seems to be two schools of thought among supporters:

1. It's a good sign that we've won 3 out of the last 4 and our finals hopes are still alive; OR

2. It's all a waste of time, we're not going to make the finals and even if we do, we're not going to go far in it.

Most of our remaining games are prelims. We simply can't afford to lose many more games if they want a half-decent finals spot.

I feel James Sellar slipping through our fingers with each win. We will beat Port and the Hawks and lose to Melbourne, Bulldogs, Sydney, St Kilda, Brisbane and the Kangas. That will leave us 8-14 and finish about 11th. Hopefully good enough to get James Sellar.

We will win 7 of the last 8 and finish 6th. Not low enough to get Seller, but high enough to get a home final in the first week and after winning that we'll play Melbourne the following week at the G.

Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. But it's got as much chance of happening as what you've said Jack.

Reality

  1. We've beaten no one
  2. We're still in it
  3. To remain in it we need to win the next two weeks. Lose to the Bullies again and it's all over
We will be deserved finalists if we can overcome our run home which includes two interstate clashes and matches against Melbourne, St Kilda, Sydney and the Bulldogs.

And or Mitchell Thorp, Scott Gumbleton, Lachlan Hansen any one of them will do.

Am I right in that this year, the priority picks come after round 1? So 11th place will get 6th pick, no matter what. Eg. Essendon (if they come last) will get picks 1 (round 1), 17 (priority pick) and possibly 19 (round 2, assuming Carlton also qualifies for priority pick 18)

Well, I think the top 7 teams will make the eight, but we will take Richmond's spot. They will go bottoms up and finish 9th... as usual. :) then we will win the flag from eigth!!!

Funny have been feeling the same way - at one stage thought we may have both Gumbleton and Hawkins!! Now its looking more like Leuneberger, Proud or Jetta - which incidently is not too bad a fall back. In my opinion we will finish 9th if Richmond beat Melbourne this Friday night regardless of how many we win on the way home. With both Essendon and Carlton only winning a few games I reckon it will take more than 12 wins to make the finals this year.

were not going to tank...bomber wont have it...
so sellers gone, and i doubt well pick up any quality talls...well finish 8th or 9th (which is crap)
but if we do win all of our remaning games (which i have my doubts but we still have the tallent) we will be ready to raid the cup...but its premature talks.
we might want to upgrade our picks if we gave away a quality youngster.....similar to what north did with WC. can use steve johnson, or corey enright, or woja...if we get to upgrade our 1st and 2nd round pic's and we get a top 6 pick to pick up a nice qualty tall.
btw if sellwood lasted to our pick would we take him? seems like a future superstar, and might slip because of his injury...do we take the risk or go for a safe bet?

We are no chance of making the 8. Even playing our best side we won't. Must play Prismall and Stokes for the rest of the season.

Such an opptimist aren't ya jack. So we are no chance at all??

While there is a glimmer of a chance of reaching the 8 I doubt Bomber will be trying for anything less considering his career is on line. I for 1 would like to see us make the 8, instead of pondering what draft picks we are going to miss out on.

I doubt Stokesy will be dropped for the rest of the season given his form since he's come into the team and I hope bomber will leave Prissa in for at least the next another 2 rounds and let Kelly earn his place back in the firsts, instead of coming back like KK did.

Such pessimism Jack! I reckon you’re the life of the party wherever you go, aren’t you?

We can make the finals, even with Prismall and Stokes in the team because on current form, they are in our best 22.

Eight games, six wins - a pretty simple equation.

One good thing that’s happening for the first time this season is that we are creating pressure from the VFL players on the senior players. On the weekend we had Kelly, Kingsley, Byrnes and others really battling their guts out in the VFL to break back into the senior team while we had Prismall, McCarthy and Stokes in the senior team all playing well to try and maintain there position.

If one good thing has come out of what has been a frustrating year thus far it is that the younger players are showing promise in the VFL and slowly breaking into the team. I think that we are more than capable of making finals but we are going to face one hell of a fight to get there. If we get in there however i think we will suprise but the next two months are going show us how good this club is.

You must be proud.

If and when Playfair gets delisted, then Jack was right about him.

But since we were 3-7, we have exceeded expectations. Most expected us to only win two, including yourself.

I'm not saying 'jump in the air and celebrate', I'm just saying we shouldn't be talking down our chances merely because we beat Carlton.
