Let's talk footy for a second, a couple of questions for general discussion.

1. What is the role of reserves in a footy club?
2. How important are reserves to a footy club?
3. What is the role of the reserves coach?
4. With too many people, is it better to have a rotation in the reserves or pick the best team every week?

I only need one of kuta and BigRich to answer. :D

They have many roles and are crucial to football clubs. Playing wise they put pressure on senior players to preform every week which makes the seniors play better. They allow senior players who are returning to fitness or struggling for form to have a run. But for a club to remain financial they play a vital role as its another 22 blokes who pay there subs plus they are the blokes that spend all there cash on piss when the senior game is on. Rotation policy is the best way or else player numbers drop off leading to less numbers at training, functions ect.

yeah i'de love to play a div 2 side. and i dont think this talk about new coaches/captains is really appropriate on here guys. That is all.

1. to add a bit of depth to the seniors?
2. very
3. er.. self explanatory
4. Rotation to an extent, you dont want the fringe players to leave and it adds some competition which will only improve the side.

1. role of the reserves is to develop up and coming senior players but in most cases it is generally made up of older guys at the stage of just having a kick for fun who wont make seniors a few good young kids then a group of guys who arent all that flash trying there hearts out to get a kick.
2. reserves are very important especially if they are playing well to put pressure on the senior team so that seniors players arent going to be straight walk up players if they arent preforming.
3. reserves coach should be a bit of a mentoring role, abit of a teacher to help those guys along who are struggling help teah the game.
4. Too many ppl the rotation system is a fair way to go but in that you would always want to keep your core of better players in the mix and rotate those guys who are boarderline reserve players but then the no train no play policy kicks into. that is all

I agree with all that you've said. I think role-wise I meant are they there to win the twos flag or to push for spots in the ones. For example, there was an article in the Sun today about VFL clubs and trying a young bloke (Harnett I think) at the Northern Bullants at CHF instead of Digby Morrell when the game was on the line. Are reserves there to put promising ones players in key spots, or to put the best option there to win every game, if that makes sense.

Yeah, they do also play an important financial role. I agree rotation is the best, otherwise you can lose a few then be short once the injury curse/work commitments, etc. hit. I think there's also a certain number of blokes who wants to take it easy and just want a kick without busting their ass every week, like Rory. :D

Agree with your answer to 3 in particular, especially with a lot of younger guys like we have who haven't played much.

These are very philosophical questions FrankenPLATO.

Everyone has very good ideas as to what the reserves mean to a footy club. We all seem to have similar ideologies as well which means that the footy club should be going in the same direction. In terms of a rotation policy. It should only be implemented after the no train no play rule is put into place. Players that give the coach notice for be absent are understandably extempt

Oh please give me a break with all this crap,Frankenfarter don't look behind you i just might be there watching you tomorrow beware of the enemy. That is All/Over and out
Over and out? LOL! Nah, just thought I'd see what people thought, and it seems particularly pertinent considering both the VFL situation in the AFL and the Parkmore situation in the SFL. If for no other reason, the ressies are important because most clubs need them to stay in the league! Parkmore is very lucky.

bad luck to the yarra boys! i was hoping you could get up so we could go to the bye in top spot. no real surprises with the results this week. talking to a sandown player after the game, says they have lost 14 players from last years flag side. a couple are playing ones and the rest have chucked it in. he got a phone call at 8am sat morning asking him to play because they were short. at least their senior side looks like winning some games this year. we were lucky today!

got to the ground early to see the 3rd quarter in the 2s and i left at 3/4 time absolut garbage and crap!! worst standard of footy i have ever seen... I no it is 2s footy but it was extremely bad!

It was very disappointing for us, we really dropped off in the second half. Losing by 18 at the half, 98 by the end. They just ran out the game a lot better than we did. I had a run-with role on Vinny O'Connor for a bit, but when I got changed off him he'd get about 3 kicks in a minute, then I'd have to go back on him. The poor standard of South Yarra's second half was eclipsed only by the poor standard of umpiring the whole day. The 12 year old kid you can cut some slack because he's obviously still learning, but the other bloke was a fair dinkum peanut. He had a boner when he talked to us in the rooms before the match, which was pretty funny. It didn't affect the outcome of the match, but was just that sort of performance that leaves you shaking your head and wondering where they find these spuds.

Take note all other clubs. how to stop the old man from cobras ,just whack him .good hard tough stuff well done jack.

G'day all you hacks from south yarra,
how do you rate our performance on the week end? what did you guys think of both the matches? Who do you think were south yarras best players?
I think it's about time you guys pulled you fingers out because the season is slipping away from you spuds.

Fair go mate, your being a tool, you'd better hope your own performances are on par with superstardom!!

i would think sth to win 2 of its next 3 games, and with a bye coming up, we arent out yet. so the likes of kuta and motorvinnie should hold off the bashing, for a few weeks at least...
