just would not want sando as coach, especially when there is a bit of talent out there at the moment to choose from.

there is a polish club in albion (near sunshine), you may need to brush up on your polish as they all speak polish and little english. the food is the best there, made by stare babcia's of the community.

Address: Polish Centre for Sport and Recreation, 19 Carrington Dve, Albion
Phone: 9311 8465(bh/ah)
Ah babcais!
Love their work!
Thanks again.

Spot on Jim Boy. Stan Alves provided his assessment of the coaches on 774 a few weeks back and he didn't rate Bomber in the top few. His rationale being that Bomber has had the cattle for the last two years and should have had us in the top four in those years. I tend to agree.

Whilst Bomber can rightly take some credit, this years improvement has more to do with a better on field leadership group which have taken ownership of the playing side and a markedly improved football department.

If Bomber wants to leave a club that has premiership prospects over the next few years to go to a club that is in a rebuilding phase let him go. I reckon prospective coaches would be queuing up for the job. Neale Daniher would do me.;)
Bleh, I hope that wink signifies sarcsm? ;) The character of the players Daniher's recruited is not to my liking, nor is their playing style; he's the wrong rancher for our cattle (though I'm sure Tenace would improve). Personally, I've never responded well to "passionate" coaches. I'm an unabashed Bomber fan, I like his attitude and hope we retain him. Bomber's made mistakes, but he's also learned from those mistakes. Bring in a raw face and we'll suffer while they undergo the same learning process.

Stan Alves should remember that Bomber developed that 'great' list we have. I don't believe our squad is the most talented, yet our players make the most of their talent, something I credit Bomber for. Match day's only part of the coaching equation. Grant Thomas was never the most tactically astute Coach, yet he positively shifted the psychology of the St.Kilda FC in a way I haven't seen since...well, Alves himself. What journey would the Saints have travelled if they hadn't disastrously replaced Stan with Tim Watson after a supposedly poor '98?

Balme and other additions weren't at the club in 2004, nor 2005 when we lost to the eventual Premiers by a narrow margin at their home ground with a forward line of Kent Kingsley, Charlie Gardiner and Henry Playfair. Tenace and Mackie were considered "promising", Egan was playing his 15th match. No Chapman, no Ottens, no Ricco who'd played every game until then -bar one, no ruck in the final quarter. Those two seasons weren't fluked.

The champagne corks popped a little too early in '06. I didn't like the demeanour of the coach, I didn't like the demeanour of the players, yet Costa and a cavalier board should bear equal responsibility for the inflated egotism. Balme now arrives at the club in 2007. Yes, he's helped create leadership within the playing group, and to the best of our outsider's knowledge he's been a positive, steadying influence. But Bomber built the foundations of this group and it's success this year; Balme, and Cook through the reassuring faith he's shown Bomber, have helped him tap the potential that he'd already nurtured. Not all coach's can relinquish authority to their players: Bomber grows again, and so does his team as a result. IMO, he's a good coach.

The lure of a Sheedy-style dynasty at Essendon will be tempting, but those knife-wielding folk at Windy Hill have high expectations. Bomber's survived one challenge at Geelong, just as Sheedy did in his initial years at Essendon, and would recognise the value of a supportive board (especially with Costa now remaining at the helm). I'm sure his emotional attachment to Geelong's playing list, HIS playing list, is strong and he'll choose to stay.

I would be very disappointed if Bomber chose to leave now, even to go back to Essendon.

Why?

Because the club stuck by him when all and sundry were baying for his blood or predicting his doom.
The club was loyal to him, he should repay that loyalty.
He may not have liked the review last year, but it was necessary and has proved successful.
He has improved and developed and the results are clear to see. He is not the only reason but he is certainly a significant part of it.

Geelong is on the verge of breaking a 44 year drought; if he's the coach of the the team that finally returns the flag to the Cattery he can write his own ticket, and I'd be happy about it.
One flag could lead to more.
Why would anyone want to give up that opportunity?

Bomber's been here for a long time, worked hard, done the hard yards, and he deserves some glory too if we win the Big one.

Other's will chase him, not least Essendon, but if the agreement holds and discussions are held after the season we'll be in a good position to negotiate, and hopefully so will he. Other jobs will be filled by then.

I think Pagan and Sheedy are more likely to move into mentoring coaching roles. I don't rate Daniher or Connolly, both have coached huge under-performers.

I for one would be very happy to have Bomber at Essendon :D.

I tend to think that there is quite an allure to coaching your old team, and even if you guys do win the flag, all it means is he is leaving while on the top instead of waiting to get the arse on the downturn...

Everything that Western Cat said summed up my thoughts beautifully regarding the Bomber situation, and then some. And his a Westie too - great minds and all :P

An allure that was never quite strong enough for that ol' sentimentalist, Sheeds himself?

Demonstrating loyalty to one club in your coaching career can be very rewarding, RFM. To misinterpret a Jake Niall quote on this very issue; "If Bomber learnt anything from Sheedy, it ought to have been that."

Ah fair point :p.

But then again they may see Sheeds at Tigerland yet...if not next year then sometime in the future if Wallace can't weave some magic...

I thought Wayne Carey said it all on Footy Classified last night when he suggested that Thompson's thought processes should be examined if he left the player list at Geelong for the player list at Essendon. Not that I'd be too fussed if he did as I don't think his part in our emergence this year has been substantial.

Here here, great work! :thumbsu:

By the way, to answer the thread - I heard Bomber confirming on SEN(5:40pm or so) that his manager had been approached by Essendon. The response was that Bomber THompson is not looking at the end of the year or next year, only at next week's upcoming game against Richmond.

SO I suppose the answer is yes, they would want Bomber but Bomber is sticking to his word.

you cant help but feel bomber wants the gig at bomberland but i cant see him returning for at least another 2 years.

Michael Voss is hanging back waiting to see if a better list becomes available. He won't jump at the bombers, demons or blues until he is sure that a team like Geelong is not looking for a new coach. If Bomber jumps it will be amazing about how passionate Vossy becomes about coaching and how sure he is that the time is right.

I don't want Voss as coach at Geelong, not until he's done an apprenticeship.

Others have tried and failed and I don't want anyone messing about with our chances of a "dynasty".
