Yep agree with this.

Zane Barzen is :fire: when it comes to kicking. Didn't have his best game last weekend, but watch him on a regular basis and some of the kicks he produces inside 50 are very, very good.
Ive been a big fan of Barzen's kicking since last years pre-season games, my major worry with him right now is how easily he is worked off the ground ball, almost looks like he doesn't want it enough he seems hungrier for the ball in the air than competing for the loose ball. If he lifts that he goes top 20 i think.

Yep, I dare say to be honest he'd be starting ruck for South Australia if he was there (hard to know given he hasn't had the extended run at it this season), but such is the strength of the Vic Country rucks, it's a hard gig to get. Might have even had more hope with Metro than Country. Just very unlucky considering his preferred role is one of surplus in his state side.

Watts is lacking confidence at the minute. Needs some consistency and role clarification.

Exactly what I said just above that haha. Played out of preferred position and therefore lacking confidence. He's a ruck, not a CHB. He's been better the last two weeks rotating between ruck and forward which is what he is best suited to.

Comes with knowing the local conditions out Ballarat way...just your normal Ballarat blizzard;)

To support AFL Victoria’s #SockIt2MND Round this weekend. GWV Rebels player Thomas Berry took on the #sockitfromthepocket challenge!
Note: as you can see the weather in Ballarat was perfect for snap shots! AFL Victoria Fight MND

Shouldn't James Rendell also be on your F/S list for Brisbane?

Yeah he’s another possibility. Much like most of the others he probably won’t cost them a bid and it will be a yes/no whether the Lions take him. But still plenty to play out in the year.

Pie 4 Life ..

Jake Frawley that played in the game today... draftable?

and number 21 ..who was he?

He’s been a big improver this season. Was surprised to see him make VC but in the trial he was very impressive. Balanced midfielder who is inside leaning but uses it pretty well. Probably vying for a late/rookie spot at this stage of draftable. Not one on my radar but he’s come on in leaps and bounds.

VC don’t have a 21, did you mean Zane Barzen in 27?

Wonder if he's talking about Vic Metro's No. 21 which is Dylan Williams.
Perhaps, I just assumed it was Country given the Frawley comment.

If it's Williams - GUN. Top 10 for me next year IMO. Wish he'd find more of the ball, but elite by foot, can play up either end. Usually plays down back, played down forward for Metro and well, you saw what happened.

So assuming it's Sam Fletcher - Inside mid, he's had his injury concerns. He's a handball-happy midfielder which often you don't get a grasp of his consistency by foot because he does fire off a lot of handballs. He's fairly good with his defensive pressure and can win his own ball in close. Just needs to play more footy as he missed the first part of the season.

You've seen more of the King boys and Williams than myself, but in your mind, why are the King twins rated top 5 and Williams top 20?

Consistency, ability to influence a game over four quarters. Ability to absolutely take the game by the scruff of the neck and put the foot on the throat.

Williams has done it against the Jets but the game was over. Max King singlehandedly stole the game from Oakleigh earlier in the year. The Kings are super athletes as well. Williams has a better vertical leap but the Kings are still right there with him. They are also capable of say 15-20 touches while playing forward or back.

I still have Williams around that 10-15 Mark so it’s not like he’s that far behind.

Pie 4 Life Where do you see Daly Andrews going currently, very taken by him this year and exactly what we need at Adelaide with his line breaking speed....we really need that outside receiver to top off our inside mids.

Late/rookie at this stage. I can see the appeal people have by putting them up high given the traits he has - speed, takes the game on, breaks the lines - but his biggest issue is his disposal/decision making because he can have some shocking clangers. He has not yet learnt to consistently kick effectively at full speed. For someone that is predominantly outside, his kicking is a worry.

I can see him surprising and coming in to maybe the third round, but you look at the speedsters who went up high - Matt Ling, Wil Powell - they are both fantastic kicks, while Will Walker was solid, and had a high impact up forward.

He is not too dissimilar to Jack Petruccelle last year - he had unbelievable speed - more so than Andrews even - but could turn the ball over. Ended up going that third round area. I think that's probably about where he's capped, because I know a couple of months ago, the Jets had a number of players they rated higher from their club - he was about sixth in line. He's probably come up a bit, but if I'm honest, I'd take Stefan Radovanovic over him because while he can turn it over occasionally, he is better by foot overall, and can play inside and has a raking kick too with greater strength.

So as it stands, I get he played well on the weekend, but I wouldn't be putting him high up the order at this stage. I would say late-rookie with potential to push into that third round.

Might sound a bit harsh, I don't mean to, it's just the reality of it.

Scotty Carlin in for Matty Lloyd for VC? Lloyd named for the Rebels, Carlin an out?

I’d drawn that conclusion too. Looks like Schlensog will be in as for his first game, as will Keighran. Hollenkamp back too. Interesting VC have dropped Garoni and Barzen as well as Ash (latter not surprising he’s had a good run as a bottom-ager). Murray to absolutely tear Geelong a new one IMO. Get a sneak peak at Hayden Young on the MCG. Excited to see how he goes, he’s in pick one consideration for next year.

Need skillful inside midfielders P4L. Ones with size would be great for us as well.

Would love some options around our first pick (currently 7), second (currently 27) and third (currently 61).

Doubt we go inside mid with all three but would love some names to keep an eye out for come Sunday and next weeks televised games.

Bailey Smith is the first name that comes to mind with #7. He's probably the one you take if there. Might just miss out, but will go close. You might consider Jackson Hately, but can be inconsistent with his disposal at times. The two in that awkward position between 7 and 27 I would raise are Liam Stocker and Xavier Duursma. Both are able to play inside, Stocker predominantly inside but is a very good kick. Duursma more outside, but played inside last year and again is a lovely kick - can play anywhere. I would have suggested Tom Berry at #27 but the word skillful crosses him out - he might be one you consider if you can overlook his throw-on-the-boot attitude. Has unbelievable speed for an inside mid and still has plenty of hurt factor, can play anywhere. If you're lucky, Xavier O'Halloran might be there at #27 - not if he keeps up his form though! - he's another capable kick who plays inside. Luke Valente, but he lacks a yard of speed and he could be higher or lower on draft night. Later on it's a bit of a shoot in the dark when you have #61. Honestly there are probably 100 inside mids you could pick, maybe a Mitch Podhajski who can play anywhere? Tom Lewis is almost certainly gone, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see him drop a bit like some inside types can. Perhaps one of the other SA mids could be there too. Mitch Mellis is one I'm not sure will get drafted, but he has class, and can win his own ball. It's really tough to say this far down. I want to see more of WA and Allies.

Thanks heaps for that. Appreciate you throwing out some names not of the norm. Have liked what Ive seen from Podhajski in the VFL. Like the sound of Valente, prefer size over pace so if that is a draw back, would over look it.

From this far out, like the sound of Hately, who does he play like? The Duursma one is interesting from the BF experts are suggesting. Has shown an ability to play inside and out.

Comparisons are always fraught with danger, and not seeing enough AFL due to my heavy Under 18s commitments, I generally just throw out the strengths and weaknesses/improvements and let people make their own comparison. Going through the two U18 Champs games so far for SA, Hately's biggest strengths are that typical of an inside midfielder - clearances, vision, handballing in space to open up to a teammate, great defensive pressure and obviously an ability to win the ball at the coal face. His improvements are consistency in his kicking, because I noticed when on the move and he needs to kick short he can try and weight his kicks but they end up lobbing high balls, whereas when kicking long he kicks through it more. Obviously compared to the other top-end inside mids he is not as athletic in terms of speed and acceleration, using strength to breakaway from opponents rather than speed/acceleration. That's why he's in that mid first round, maybe sneaking top 10, rather than in Pick 1 consideration.

Also as an inside mid I feel he compares closer to a Pendlebury/Heppell type, good around the stoppages but not a real beast at winning the contested ball.

He’s not a Valente/Lewis but would still be inside-leaning.
