So what do North need?

A coach who devises a game plan to suit our strengths, not one who expects players to conform to their pre conceived idea of what would be an unbeatable plan.

If that's Rhyce Shaw, then he suits us perfectly. He already reversed our awful kick to handball ratio, which shows he was at odds with how we previously played the game.

Our top shelf players (who are genuinely excellent at what they do)

Brown
Cunnington
Higgins
Tarrant
Jacobs (when fit)
Polec

But our real strength is that we have a list full of blokes who love to be let off the leash to hurt, bump, tackle and bruise the opposition.

Zurhaar, Cunnington, Anderson, Ziebell, Tarrant, Thompson, Simpkin, Pittard, etc. I'm probably missing a few but most of our blokes love a scrap and love to play hard contested footy.

This skillset simply could not flourish when they were focused upon guarding space and positioning. A few of us on the North board pointed it out for weeks on end, going through midfield bounces, stoppages, etc. and our players looked genuinely unsure of what they were doing.

We also had the largest discrepancy in the comp between our 'inside' and 'outside' mids under Brad, meaning that we were one, extremely predictable and two, hesitant about stepping outside of our 'role' even when the situation called for it.

That isn't something you want when you have a team full of blokes who manically attack the ball as their first instinct.

I personally think we will go on a tear, maybe just miss out on finals, and appoint Rhyce Shaw after a really strong showing. A straight down the line coach who gives blokes the freedom to hunt the footy with simple instruction. I don't think our side is best served by tactical tinkerers and structure enthusiasts like Brad Scott was.

One of our young players, LDU made a point of mentioning this. Stated that Shaw basically gave him the freedom to play on instinct and stop thinking or worrying so much.

So yeah, after last night's showing and the simple, kick-heavy and contested footy game plan, I'm backing in the caretaker coach for the top job.
Excellent post mate

If you want to believe in mythical sky creatures then all power to you

Anthropologists believe that humans invented gods as a form of social control. If you're left alone to guard the dwindling food store during hard times while the rest of tribe goes hunting and gathering, having a kind of "Invisible Policeman" in your head in the form of a god is a good way to stop you eating that food and the whole group starving.

The Footy Gods exist to stop us acting like complete arrogant turds to other clubs, to remember our place, to have it hammered home that every time two sides run out against each other, anything can happen.

Richmond supporters, including yourself, acted like complete twats all week, "they have no A-graders" etc etc.

Lot of Richmond blokes - Jack Higgins a key example - running off reflected glory of two years ago when four blokes won a flag.

Jack Higgins wouldn't get a game at North next week. Quite a few Richmond blokes wouldn't get a game.

Yep, you can see it in Jy Simpkin too, poor bugger was over-thinking his every move like a 17 year old on a first date.

Gets licence to play on instinct, we see the Jy that Paul Roos said would have been starting 18 as a 16 year old.

Turner as a defender, not a small forward works well.

And Tarryn Thomas, just wow.

It seems to me that North have been competitive ever since the stupidity of leaving Ziebell at full forward has been nixed and you've put him on the ball. Shaw seems to have put the players in a position where they have the best chance to succeed and used a game plan to suit. B Scott just thought he was the smartest guy in room and seemed to change things up for the sake of it.

Ziebell at FF worked last year, have Larkey though now.

Cut all the deadwood and draft in some talent, the cupboard is quite bare at the moment.

There's really only a couple of good young players coming through, T.Thomas and Jy Simpkin. But what happened to likes of McKay and Durdin? They have 20 games in 9 seasons combined, just not coming on like they would have hoped. LDU stuck in the VFL, top 4 draft pick from only two years ago.

And its a real mixed bag for their senior players:

S.Thompson - Cooked
Goldstein - Cooked, could get another year or two in a new environment
Hrovat - how is this bloke still on a list??
McMillan - literally who
Anderson - finally showing something
Mason Wood - Kicking is not AFL standard
Polec - solid but nothing special
Cunnington - goes to water easily but otherwise a good player
Brown - very good but one dimensional
Ziebell - good player
Turner - honest battler
Dumont - average player
McDonald - solid role player, probably wasn't really worth a first rounder in hindsight
Garner - 30 games in 7 seasons but still on the list

Tough times ahead but a top 10 pick this year should help.

Looks like The Footy Gods have struck North down now :thumbsu:

Now do one of Essendon, I bet it'll be even funnier.

Ziebs kicked 35 goals and about as many points as third tall. He's a great forward, much better than in the midfield.

Your most promising young player is a tagger with a s**t haircut.
