After topping up with Ryan, Silvagni and De Koning following a break out season from Wanganeen-Milera, things are looking good for the Saints heading in 2026.

Do you think they'll make the finals in 2026 and announce themselves as a genuine premiership contender, or is this merely another false dawn at Moorabbin?

Probably finish 9th-11th. I'm not sure anyone they brought in particularly moves the needle for them but internally they'd be expecting to make finals.

They really should be making the finals with all that recruiting. But I tell you what. There’s a few teams that would want to push into finals. Dogs saints and swans will all believe they should make it. I can’t see three teams falling out though. So will be a squeeze on.

They looked good for most of 2025 before McRae rested players and cost them top 2 as it messed with their good form. However they were still good enough to rally in September by beating Adelaide in SA before going on to lose to Brisbane in the preliminary final.

Most people are predicting Collingwood to slide next year but I think they'll be pushing for top 4 again and perhaps a premiership. What are your thoughts?

I think the dogs and swans better places also. I can’t see which teams drop out. Pies a chance to drop away depending on if they can snag any players in this trade period. Not sure who else. Usually one or two drop out.

Unless they pull something this trade period it’s hard to see how they improve. Lions will be hard to catch again. Suns with Petracca will get better. Hawks are improving as are Freo. I can see them making finals but could also see them drop away.

They peaked 2/3's of the way through this season. Their form dropped off markedly from there. And their forward cohesion was one of the worst in the comp in that last 1/3.

They beat Adelaide in that first final but that was false form given what Adelaide produced the following week.

Given they will be a year older and assuming they don't pull a rabbit out of the hat this trade period, I would have to say they have no chance.

I can see significant improvement in a few other teams and Brisbane will no doubt be improved given their kids natural improvement. And if Allen can remain on the park (big question mark).

They will still get plenty of games at the MCG.... but yeah, expect them to slide... after this year i predicted they would make the Grand Final in pre-season. Around mid-table.

We got a hard fixture this year (not as hard as Brisbane), unlikely it will be any harder next year.
