Last Time Geelong Played Exactly x Home Games at Kardinia Park or Corio Oval:

7 home games - 2017
8 home games - 2016
9 home games - 2018
10 home games - 1996
11 home games - never

In 1981, Geelong played a home game at the SCG (v ME).
In 1969, Geelong played all of their home games in Geelong (10 of 20), the last time they did so.
1n 1952, Geelong played a home game at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground (v ES).

R&B

My records show Geelong playing eleven home games at Corio Oval in 1893

At the commencement of the league in 1897, these were the designated home grounds:

CARLTON: Princes Park
COLLINGWOOD: Victoria Park
ESSENDON: East Melbourne Cricket Ground
FITZROY: Brunswick Street
GEELONG: Corio Oval
MELBOURNE: MCG
ST. KILDA: Junction Oval
SOUTH MELBOURNE: Albert Park

It took until round 2, 1919 for every team to record a victory and a loss to each other on all home grounds. The game that completed this feat was St. Kilda achieving their first victory at Victoria Park.

The 1997 season was a very unusual one.

In that season every team was in the Top 8 at the completion of a round at least once during the season. Even bottom team Melbourne, which finished last by a long way was in the Top 8 once courtesy of an upset win over North Melbourne in Round 1. Another strange statistic from 1997 is that the last team to get into the Top 8 was the minor premiers and eventual runner up St. Kilda, with the Saints not entering the 8 until Round 8.

Can anyone else name a season, apart from the war affected 4 team 1916 competition, where all the teams were in the Top 4/5/6/8 at least once during the season?

I was thinking about what was the longest period of time there has been with no repeat premierships and no repeat wooden spoon teams in the AFL/VFL.

For premiers, 6 years in the 1960s brought 6 different sides the premiership. Geelong won in 1963, Melbourne 1964, Essendon 1965, St. Kilda 1966, Richmond 1967 and Carlton in 1968, before the streak broke when 1967 premiers Richmond were again premiers in 1969.

For wooden spoons, the longest time I could think of was 9 years from 1996-2004. These 9 seasons saw 9 different teams finish on the bottom of the ladder, starting with Fitzroy in 1996, Melbourne 1997, Brisbane Lions 1998, Collingwood 1999, St. Kilda 2000, Fremantle 2001, Carlton 2002, Western Bulldogs 2003 and Richmond 2004, before Carlton broke the streak by claiming the 2005 wooden spoon 3 years after a last placed finish in 2002.

I can't think of any longer periods of time with no repeats premierships or wooden spoons. If there's something I missed or you can think of anything close, please reply.

For Premiers, there should also be the 6-year streak from 2003-2008:
2003 Brisbane
2004 Port Adelaide
2005 Sydney
2006 West Coast
2007 Geelong
2008 Hawthorn

Broken by another win to Geelong in 2009. The 9-year streak is comfortably the longest for wooden spoons.

And to be fair - this should have been an 8 year streak! (2003-2010).

Stuffed up by whom? The first team to lose a Grand Final after winning the First Quarter, winning the Second Quarter, and winning the Third Quarter!! Who else but eh?

2000s - 3: Brisbane Lions (2001), Sydney Swans (2005) & Geelong (2007).
2010s - 2: Western Bulldogs (2016) & Richmond (2017).

1950s - 1: Footscray (1954).
1970s - 1: North Melbourne (1975).
1990s - 1: Collingwood (1990).

Current ‘Record’ Droughts (Only St. Kilda isn't a record)

55 Years (5th) - Melbourne (1964) - Record drought for Melbourne
53 Years (6th) - St. Kilda (1966)
25th Year (15th) - Fremantle (Joined in 1995) - Record drought for Fremantle
24 Years (16th) - Carlton (1995) - Record drought for Carlton as we enter Season 2019... Had to win in 2018.

Next up Adelaide (1998), North Melbourne (1999), Essendon (2000) - all overdue by 1 in 18 years measure.

As a question I hadn't considered until now, but who had the longer drought Richmond (1980-2017) waiting 37 years before winning again of Hawthorn (1925-1961) winning its first in its 37th Year. Which of those is the longer drought or should they be considered droughts of equal significance?

AFL Premiership 'Drought Breakers' - Top 15

14. Carlton d Collingwood (1938) - 23 Years
15. Carlton d Essendon (1968) - 23 Years

The Carlton d Essendon (1968) drought should be 21 years, as Carlton's previous premiership was 1947 (also against Essendon).

The 15th 'drought breaker' on the list will be Fitzroy d Richmond (1944) - 22 years.

If Essendon don’t win a final in the next couple of years, we may have an entire league of players whose careers began after Essendon’s most recent finals win.

The only players remaining from the 2004 season are:
Shaun Burgoyne
Luke Hodge
Gary Ablett Jr
Jarrad McVeigh
Kade Simpson
David Mundy
Heath Shaw
Aaron Sandilands
Daniel Wells
Michael Rischitelli

Thought you'd missed Gary Ablett senior's 1993 season, but he "only" kicked 57 goals in the 7 losses he played in that season. That would surely be a record for average goals per loss - just over 8 a game.

Not sure about your maths, wasn't it 54 goals in 7 losses (7, 14, 4, 3, 10, 11, 5)?

8.0 goals per H&A loss - Peter Hudson (1973)
7.7 - Gary Ablett Snr (1993)
7.0 - Jason Dunstall (1985)

Hard to credit Pratt not winning the South Melbourne Best & Fairest in 1934.....What more does a fella have to do?

Surprised at Super-boot, Bernie Quinlan also not winning one.
