160kg? Proof or I call shenanigans.

my brother does 155Kg, he makes swan look like a tooth pick, find it very hard to believe swan could move that sort of weight, up and down once maybe, but not a set, when people ask what you press you tell them your set weights.

Swans bench was 140kg from that image taken at the club of PB's.
Gehrig from memory's best lift was 155kg thereabouts.

In the NFL they measure upper body strength by number of reps at 100kg. Think the record is something around 85 reps.

And for comparison, the world record bench is just under 500kg! But that dude is freaking ridiculous.

i reckon i could get 100kg up and down once if my life depended on it , and if you try it alone with free weights your life almost does depend on getting it up lol, (but if someone asks what i press i dont say 100KG) most guys who pump iron will tell you what they bench as a set, and they do 3 sets of 8 or 10 in like 5 or 6 minutes, i do around 45kgs as a set (weakling lol).

if these are set weights we're talking about it's pretty impressive, if fraser can press 155 as a set then WOW!!, he's a big bloke but i wouldnt of thought he had the shape or size to do that.

The weights listed are single max lifts. There is no way Gehrig would of lifted 170+ multiple times.

Single max rep is a good way of measuring ultimate bench pressing strength.

A young bloke at the Brisbane Broncos set a new club record for the bench recently at 185kg, but he would weigh up around 120kg.

Jonathan Brown holds the Lions record at 160kg, but at a bodyweight of around 105kg.

Luke Power benching 130kg whilst weighing 80-82kg is probably just as impressive as Brown, if not moreso.

Had some good times benching with Fraser and Hall. Gehrig has benched more then the 172.5. Ive seen him bench 177KG, he is a bloke who is just a machine.

Supports what I heard about Gehrig a few years ago of him benching around 180kg. Just wondering if that 177 included the bar weight?

According to Deledio, Angus Graham leads the way at Richmond benching around 160.

Of course it does, never in my life have i heard anyone only refer to the weight on the bar as what they lift for max lift.

When someone asks "what do you bench", you dont tell them what you can bench for reps, some people might do sets of 2 reps, some might do 4, some 6, some 8, some 12 ... you tell them your 1RM.. you ****

my two older brothers have been body builders/weight lifters for the last 20 yrs, and WTF 2/4 reps?. go back to school mate, you have no idea what you're talking about.

8 is minimum, some do 10, fewer do 12, but even if you do do 12, 3 sets of 12, thats your press, thats when your talking to someone who knows what they're talking about anyway, heard of people doing 6 and upping the weight as a change up, but not many do and for those that do, as i said, its just for a change up/something different.

one of my brothers could probably single press 220 to 250kg, you'd never hear him say thats what he presses though, maybe single lifts are what footballers call there press weight, serious iron pumpers will tell you their rep/set weight.

Your brothers aren't weightlifters. They're not powerlifters either. Any competitive lifter in the world will tell you what their 1RM is.

Also, stop saying press when you're referring to bench press. The two are completely different lifts.

ask someone what they press mate and they will tell you what they bench press, where i come from anyway.

and yes, my brothers arnt weight lifters, they're body builders, they eat 6000+ calories per day, they do no more than 15 minutes of cardio per week.

Its pretty common knowledge if your lifting to put on size/power you do less reps. 4-8 reps is about the range. If your doing 12 reps your not lifting enough weight unless your just maintaining strength or cutting up etc.

And there are plenty of meatheads in the gym that dont know what they are doing. Just because they are big doesnt mean anything. Some people naturally put on weight easily. There's a heap on the juice too.

Single bench pressing 250kg is no easy task either.

As much as I hate to say it, Chris Judd would be one of the strongest. Your midfielders like Judd, Ablett, Hodge, Swan and others are very strong.

Jono Brown is a big bloke and he is very strong. Travis Cloke when he uses it well, can throw defenders off very easily.

It's hard to pick just one strongest player.
