In fact, rather than pot Ratten, I'm going to say ... Brett mate, you're a top bloke, you give your all, but you have a new life with a new baby and you are not getting back what you put in. This team does not deserve you. If you are going to go out, go out by telling them where to go, not the other way around.
I want him to coach next week, after all why would the club sack him with one week left to go, and get a win and go out with his head held high.

Also... if I was him, I would get all the players in to a room during training next week, along with a bucket of tennis balls, and go ape shit mad tossing the balls at the heads of the players who serious deserve it.

Bunch of weak as shit pussies some of them.

I am madder at the players than I am at the coach.

Its the sort of season/the sort of moments that some teams look back on in the future and say that it defined the playing group. (geelong/hawthorn)

Im just not sure about this playing group. Whether ratts is there or not.

I'd like to say they will hurt all off season and come back more ferocious and determined. But time and time again they let me down.

Supported the Blues since '66, location and work commitments prevented me ever seeing the boys in the flesh until tonight. Got to witness probably the worst onfield performance in the club's history.
So fed up with people supporting Ratten. We are sublime one week and ****house the next as I posted in Ratten thread during the week. The preparation, the motivation, the structures, the effort are totally haphazard. The head coach is where the buck stops. We have some primma donnas who have perfected the art of down hill skiing, and/or showboating, too many posters here laud their moments of brilliance and blindly forgive them their transgressions. Full field view tonight rather than TV footage confirmed that, and the worst is the supremely gifted Yarran. We need a coach who can "convince" that the club comes before individual glory or preservation. Brock McLean hold your head high, after all the crap you have copped in these pages, you were the only one I saw giving 100 minutes of effort tonight. I could individualise the poor performances, selected input and the like but what is the use.
I reiterate, no matter how poor the players were as a group or individuals, a coach who has had them for multiple seasons must take the responsibility. They need to know "shape up or ship out", why does Ratten not apply the same standards to them as he did to himself?
46 years of support, finally get to a game and that................

Ratts just tore a journo a real new one in that presser. Obviously extremely disgusted and rightly so.

Rather than being a smart arse, how about you answer my question......

Huh? Why the aggro??? I was being light-hearted, accepting the point you made, i.e. banging my head against the wall in frustration that Mitchell will not play. Ok?

Blame the unofficial 'youth policy'.

What is Ratten's fault, is the russian roulette he plays with our structure. No room for error when your key defenders are White and McInnes who are third defender size. Whenever we go in with no backup and lose a tall early, a terrible game is bound to follow.

As I posted in another thread, it's inexplicable that JR, Emu and T-Bird were dumped by the half way point of the season just before our season fell completely apart.

Who'll break their silence first will be fascinating - a sacked coach or sacked players. Not to mention Ellard and Lucas who are out of favour.

Yeah didn't see McLean do much wrong, and felt Walker did well when switched back to defence. Scotland tried but geez, did he have the fumbles tonight. Honestly thought he was having a shocker in the first half. I concede I couldn't see everything where I was.

Agree. Scotland at least showed some passion and a bit of ticker, which can't be said for nearly the whole team....what planet was murphy on?? Wish Robbo was playing he would've fired us up.

Bombers are not the Gold Coast.
Agreed, Gold Coast are a team on the rise. Stronger after an honourable 64 point loss last week against the premiership favourites and playing on their home soil.

Essendon are a rabble we've thrashed twice in 12 months. Only for us to have our season ended the following week after the euphoria of beating them has subsided. :(

Luke Mitchell has missed a season and a half of footy due to 3 shoulder reco's.
Whilst he did kick a couple today, he simply isn't up to AFL footy just yet. He needs another preseason under his belt to really build up his fitness base, and then in 2013 get some more games of VFL footy under his belt.

Despite what some posters think on BF, he's not the great white hope.

There is at least one player who, you could argue, was not ready for afl footy (e.g. Bootsma), but who got at least one game. In a "dead rubber", I think It would be great to give him a taste of AFL for development purposes, but not if it would put him at (unacceptable) risk.

Would love to know the reason thorton couldnt get a game at different stages of the year. He is exactly the sort of versatility we could have used tonight.

I love ratts, but have always had question marks on his ability as a match day coach. He comes in with plans as how he thinks the game will go, and when it all goes to plan we look like the best side in the comp. However when things dont, we just seem to play the game out.

Cant stand the fact he will be held accountable for the effort the players put in tonight. Load of shit that the coach is responsible for the mental preparation of players, he cant think for them.

Just a quick one. Carlton are 2-5 at Carrara, including that woeful home game we sold to them when we were in 4th and lost to 14th place Freo. That was the worst I had seen us play until now and Fev had one of his infamous, no leading, no chasing games.

Would I be right in suggesting our last win at Carrara was in 1989?

I can't believe people are blaming the midfielders.

We had 74 more disposals, 21 more hit-outs, 23 more inside 50's. How much more do people want them to do? they even kicked 4 of our 11 goals.

This is what happens when your forwards can't kick straight from anywhere on the field and your defenders are undersized and have their opponents kick accurately against them.

The lack of defense running and support in the midfield was telling, but poor hands was the order of the day.

No we lost in '89. We won in '88 and '92.
Sounds about right. I knew it was a long time ago. I should have remembered the loss in '89 because I got caught in traffic on the way back to Brisbane after the game due to an accident on the Pacific Highway near the Logan Motorway. It just topped off a shit day.

I know that after footy is a sport of extremes, everyone was perfect last week and everyone sucked today, but the one major difference between this week and last was that we couldn't kick straight.

2.9 from our 2 big forwards lost us the game in the end.

The horror. I'm so embarrassed by our complacency... three decent wins all season, and on each occasion we've been humiliated in a new and interesting way the following week, whether it be the bath from the Bombers in R4, conceding 16.0 to North from set shots, or even suffering our first loss to the team placed 17th.

I accept that the players are very substantially to blame for what happened tonight... but it is also up to Ratten and co to identify these trends and break them! Ratten himself took his eye off the ball in the late-week presser, pondering what sort of form we might be in if we made the finals... of course the players shouldn't have followed, but on tonight's performance, they obviously did.

I don't know how to fix our attitude problems: they just keep reappearing, every time it seems like we've stamped them down. I wouldn't be changing the senior coach for 2013 if it were up to me, but perhaps it is the only way forward (as opposed to sideways/backwards).

Whether or not Ratts gets the best out of the players or has good structures etc doesn't matter... in that I have to echo previous words and say Ratts just doesn't deserve this. Yes we could have won if not for shocking kicking but we should never have been in that position if the players gave a damn from the outset.

Well done playing group. You just trolled a Carlton great and True Blue man who will likely have a very bad sleep tonight.
