I hold very little store in the AFLs conventional wisdom.
"Dawson is not worth pick five" springs to mind....

Can't think of our last big hit from a first round non-Academy selection in quite a while.. Florent?
EDIT: I guess technically Logan too.
In answer to the last I don't think so. Reid was incredibly structurally important and losing him on the day left a hole we didn't have the resources within the team to fill. Losing a defender is less critical as we are better equipped to restructure around that loss.Firstly Im not a list manager of an AFL team, so I've no idea of any contract details. So in short, I dont know (sh*t answer sorry)
But
Ive watched the Swans play without 2 x McCartins + Rampe + Logan + Reid + Amartey + Buddy + both our rucks being injured or underdone. We went from grand finalists to crap. Same thing happened a few years ago resulting in Allirr playing ruck and a bottom 4 finish.
Ive watched Reids career show so much at times but never really contribute to success due to injury,, same goes with Amartey who has huge upside but is yet to complete a pre-season and hasn't come close to completing a season. Injured players are useless.. Injured talls that our team structure is built around are worse.
A big reason for the Swans defence being so good in the past was Grundy and Smith (+ others) never getting injured. A back 6 has to play together every game to understand each other and play as One
If T Mac and Melican played every game without injury next year, we would be better than good.
Himmelberg doesn't get injured.. Arnold looks good and seems to not be injury prone.. How far away is Will Edwards? Maybe more interceptors rather than lock down defenders but I think those roles overlap more and more..
Of course Barrass will make our team better (when fit) for the next 3 maybe 4 years. I question how much hes worth?
If a late 1st - early 2nd,, then yep trade him in.
PS. just to be a smart ass - We weren't able to contend the moment Reid got injured. Would Barrass be the same?

In fairness it's voted for by the fans, so it's not the opinion of the club.Swans social media updating they're Furphy best ever Swan s team and the dickheads have Paul Kelly and the greatest rover in history Bob Skilton on the wings !
The beer or camels piss is bad enough
And a lot of new fans probably have no idea about say Skilton , that's why it should never be a fan thingIn fairness it's voted for by the fans, so it's not the opinion of the club.
I'd have opted for Bob Pratt over O Loughlin.
Well colour me shockedTwomey says Stephens contact discussions put on hold to end of year.

Hardly surprising. Don't blame him for going but really want him to stay. Will be a gun in a better systemTwomey says Stephens contact discussions put on hold to end of year.

Time to change our recruiters. Consistently getting our top picks wrong. He could still become a very good player, but I can also see him being one of those journeymen who gets to 150 games without having much impact. I don't have a major problem with another club finding out which it is.
He probably needs to go to a bottom or mid ladder team and be given a wing to operate on all year. With Gulden, Campbell and McInerney in our side he's never going to get the opportunities he needs to improve here.

Missing P.Mac down backAgree on Reid and I thought we did well to make up for the loss of our back talls for those 10 rounds or so.
But this intercept marking stat is a shocker.
Richmond is #1 in the comp for intercept marks with 337. We've taken 238, ranking.... 18th. Given the number of centre clearances we've lost and I50s conceded we've probably had more intercept 'opportunities' than anyone else.
Our top intercept marker is Blakey with 36. Noah Balta has taken 70.

,,,Will it take 12, 12½ or 13 wins to make the top eight this season?
Fifteen of the 18 AFL clubs remain in finals contention, with Collingwood, Port Adelaide, Brisbane Lions and Melbourne in strong positions to secure a top-four spot – and the double chance.
12. Sydney (8-9-1, 34 points, 111.8%)
Did as they needed to, defeating the Dockers in Perth to stay in the race. The Swans have improved in the past six weeks, so that is reason for hope they can launch an assault, plus their remaining draw is friendlier than others. Beating Essendon on Saturday night and the Giants next week is a must, given they are already a game behind eighth-placed Geelong. Sydney need to win four of their last five at minimum, and may require their closest rivals, including GWS, to simultaneously fall over.

In-form Swans superstar poses hurdle for Bombers in high-stakes clash
Lance Franklin has often dined out on Essendon throughout his glittering career and looms as a major threat again to the Bombers in Saturday night's clash

LANCE Franklin's menacing return to form should have Essendon fans' nerves jangling ahead of their side's high-stakes clash with Sydney.
Franklin has tormented the Bombers over the years with 79 goals in 20 meetings - more than he has kicked against any other club.
And while the 36-year-old is nearing the end of his glittering career, there is a sense he would relish delivering another knockout blow to an old rival at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
Franklin has kicked multiple goals in three straight matches and looms large over a contest that will have a huge bearing on both sides' finals chances.
Exactly why another quality KPD is a much more urgent need than upgrading our ruckmanAgree on Reid and I thought we did well to make up for the loss of our back talls for those 10 rounds or so.
