Yeah, so I am bored at work and thought I'd see who we value more out of those two - Syvlia's unbelievable potential or Bate's workmanlike abilities.

The question is, which one will be more valuable for us for the next 10 years?

Sylvia... with a bit of luck with injuries he will dominate in the midfield... He is a tank with a great kick.... he is only playing fwd because he is a good player but never fit

He and Mclean are the only two in our side at the moment who could win a brownlow no one else has the talent (maybe morton) but thats it

I went for Bate.
Silvia has potential but on most days is average and has been the same for a couple of years now.
Bate will prove to be a far more consistent performer over the next 5-7 years and is just as capable of taking over a game.
Lovely kick, good mark, hard runner, less injuries.

Lets hope they both rip it up

Bate easily.

Sylvia has had injury problems since he's started and being injured on/off for 5-6 years will take its toll and he won't reach the heights we all hoped for. Still a solid player but I don't know why people are clinging onto potential.

Bate will iron out his consistency and hopefully learn to play with niggles and he will be a very valuable player.

Both can be pretty useful players for us going forward but I reckon if we were to lose one of them then Bate would be harder to replace. TBH I don't really like saying one player is better than another especially when it is close like this one.

What exactly do you mean mate?

Bate has a very similar body type to Brown a few kg shy at the moment but still. he possesses a very similar skill set to JB as well, both are hard at it, pack crunching players with booming and accurate kicks. the big difference is that Bate has the mobility and stamina to run through the midfield all day as well as hold down a key position.

imagine if JB could assert his authority all over the ground instead of just the forward half. because that's the sort of player i can see Bate becoming

Haha I hope, for your sake, you aint being serious.

didn't word it very well at all.

i don't expect Bate to be the next Brown, i expect him to play like Brown does but all over the ground

Well thats a bit better then.
I went Sylvia, but I don't know Bate particularly well...
Sylvia will be the next RO'K, I reckon.
He was a late developer too, and has now started to shine at 26/7/8.
I expect Sylvia to finally show why he was such a high pick soon, either 2009 or 2010.

I think you're being fairly generous to Bate with that comparison :D

I'm not sure he's quite in Jonathon Brown's class, but yeah i think Bate will probably be the more consistent contributor in the long term because his fitness base allows him to do more than Sylvia. Though Sylvia could develop into a Brad Johnson style small forward/midfielder who could do some real damage potentially...

Sylvia is only 23.

And i'm gunna go with Sylvia, And i hope with a full Pre-Season behind him he will have a break out year in 2009.:thumbsu:

Yeah I realised he was younger than the age I specified, but I expect him to get better and better until peaking around then.
