Tait and Johnson

Tait should never be considered for an Australia side again, absoluteness pathetic.
None of the bowlers did very good but he was worst by far.

60% of what Tait bowls would honestly embarrass a 3rd grade park bowler.

You have to wonder about the incompetency of the people that select him.
I can see where you're coming from, but picking someone who has a career ODI average of 23 is hardly "incompetent".
In hindsight Dirk Nannes, who bowled as accurately as I've ever seen him, this summer, would have been a better choice, as would Harris and McKay (in those conditions) but they weren't available.

Our current attack does not allow us the luxury of playing a bowler like Tait. His fluctuations have too much influence over the side. If McGrath and Gillespie were still in the side then that might be a different story.

Tait reminds me of AFL footballers that have no idea how to kick a ball.

How do you get to the top of your sport when you have some clearly fundamental flaws?

far too many wides and they leaked runs easily. tait's spell late in the game after dhoni was out was pretty woeful to be honest. the pressure was on yuvraj and raina but he gave them too many scoring opportunities and examples like the 5 wides really are a gift and take away the pressure from the batsmen

Keep them all I say, love it, especially when Australia get done lol. Tait is the biggest w***er gets smashed to all parts and has the nerve to mouth off to the greatest batsman, what a joke.

Thought JOhnson bowled well until his last couple of overs yesterday, but again we saw the need for a leader of the attack. Compare Lee and Johnson. Johnson in his last over, first ball went for that boundary, immediately you see the body language slump, he doesnt run in with the same intent etc. Lee if he gets hit goes back to his mark and charges in again, busting a gut for the cause. A stark difference in attitude between the two

tait is unpredictable, and the commentators agree. agree so much that they wanted him to continue bowling. perhaps they thought by him bowling it will be an early night.

his unpredictability can be good as no one knows where the ball is going. a bit like steve smiths "agricultural" batting.

and yet he picked up sachin tendulkar when he was set and looked for all the world like he was going to make a big ton. go figure

was dissapointing though. but spin (lack of) and a hopeless middle order buggered us. 260 was barely par. imagine if ponting had failed aswell

Way too wayward. He isn't even that fast these days, not going to worry good batsmen with him pace, haven't seen him bowl a good wicket taking bowl for a while. Needs to learn to bowl a decent length and line consistently.

Tait looked a lot more dangerous 4 years ago, but he had bracken(our biggest recent loss in one day cricket imo) and mcgrath squeezing the life out of batsmen forcing them to take their risks vs taits pace.

It was a huge gamble to basically pick a bunch of wild gunslingers and hope they all had purple patches and it was a huge failure.

Yeah that deliver to Tendulkar was a pile of shit.

Tait didn't bowl well, but he is a good option for the Australian team, deserved to be there. We had limited scoreboard pressure this whole World Cup and you lament the bowling side, when it is clearly the batting that cost us.

The problem is that Tait is consistent. It's players like Johnson who are too scared to bowl yorkers because they inevitably go down leg side for four and who is one of best front runners in the world. Tait had the Indian's hoping around, his radar was slightly off more than usual and that pitch was terribly slow that Lee and Tait could be pulled by a bloke like Raina.

The only way Tait could ever work is if we have 2 bowlers that are consistent, Johnson and Lee aren't that. It's no surprise how effective our attack was in the 07 WC with Bracken, McGrath and Tait. Sadly we can't afford that luxury now so Tait is too much of a risk to have in the side.

The problem I have with both of them is that they are not mentally strong. I would never in a million years have expected Johnson to get wickets in last night's match. It was too much of a pressure situation.

However, I'm damned if I know who we have to replace them at present unless we just keep throwing youngsters at the wall to see who sticks.

You mean the bowler who holds Australian records for most wickets in a domestic FC season, most wickets in a domestic limited overs match, broke the previous World Cup record for wickets and has excellent ODI figures?

Granted, his last couple of matches in this World Cup were pretty poor. But some of the vitriol in this thread is undeserved. He has a bloody good ODI record, for good reason.
