Surely we deserve better from the club?

Worsfold has long been a poor communicator in public but it’s gone to a new level this year, which of course leads to the conclusion he’s simply checked out.

So maybe it’s Rutten, I dunno. Maybe it’s Richardson or one of the assistants. I don’t really care. But the club needs to enunciate SOMETHING on strategy, on how we’re trying to play, and how it’s going via updates.

It’s simple to do and could just be a weekly spot. It’s done in-house by the club so can be planned without having to worry about what questions journos are going to ask.

It’s not 1995. People expect and deserve better than a weekly selection announcement and a “we’re disappointed, we have to improve / we’re really proud, great effort” after the game.

Yep I think fox footy summed it up really well last night. Tell us what you’re trying to do/ how you want to play. It seems everyone in the afl world is on the same page of having zero clue.

I was thinking about this last night. The club seems to be in a bubble, bumbling their way each week, every year.

No exterior noise is reaching them, or they don't want to hear it one or the other.

Think the more worrying aspect is we are on our second or third (not sure which) attempt of copying another clubs gameplan and backroom. Last 2 I recall are the Tiger blueprint , the Geelong blueprint before that

We truly have become a medocre club of followers, not innovators.

Dosent help that our last handfull of coaches were picked without due process, this way we will never get the opportunity to see innovators because the doors are shut

Need fresh thinking , not a rehash of another clubs outdated thoughts

Yeh I can feel the seige mentality brewing

The media love a coaching handover plan, they get to poke and prod at it til they find a flaw they can mercilessly expose, to break it apart. Nobody wants a handover to work smoothly, doseht sell news.

I can understand why they have gone in house, as a fan I can wear it

Do we deserve better though?

The membership base is just about the only thing this club has going for it at the moment. And it’s stuck and grown over a hell of a decade.

Yes, it deserves better. Perhaps a weekly update where somebody from the football dept at least pretends to know or give a shit about what’s happening on the field.

Yes, nothing... or the entire game plan and every strategy decision.

There’s nothing at all in between they could do.

Like just having a coach actually discuss a game afterwards.
Like a message from the coach post game?

No, a disussion. I’m not referring to a one minute message where the already-retired coach says “the first quarter wasn’t good enough, the rest was a bit better, we lost Zaharakis from last week which was tough and we’ll have to work harder”.

I don’t know why you’re attempting to be obtuse, it’s pretty obvious they could do more to keep the members engaged if they wanted to. If you’re not interested, you wouldn’t have to watch it. But I would be and so would other members I know.

I'm not being obtuse, I believe the club is doing what you're upset about. So I'm just trying to understand what you're doing other than yelling at the clouds.

Worsfold is not a poor communicator at all. He just stays on message. That is what they want him do do. They do not want anything that gives the media more to report on other than speculation.
How many other clubs come out and discuss details of their game plan ? None.

Richmond have been doing it for years. Hardwick was taking members through stoppage and set play reviews years ago. It really hurt them as they won two flags. They still do Coach's Corner every week where one of the coaches fronts up for a five minute discussion about the game, what worked well and what didn't work.

The notion that discussing any details of gameplans etc would "give away" information is freaking laughable. People do know that clubs all have opposition analysts who study how we play every week, yes? They know exactly what we're trying to do, which is probably why they find it so easy to stop.

You have zero info - which is us at the moment - and you have every last detail from inside meetings etc. Do people honestly think there's nothing in between that would enhance our understanding of what we're actually trying to do whilst not giving away "secrets"?

The same Hardwicke the members wanted to sack at the end of 2016 as they had no game plan and kept finishing mid table ......

By the way we have done coaches corner in the recent past as well.

TOTALLY agree.

Worsfold presents as a bemused observer of football as a system. His evasiveness is just so LAME and ultimately disrespectful.

He's our coach today but soon he could be someone else's assistant, or director of football, and maybe one day a board member somewhere. The passion seems to be zero. It's like Ben Cousins broke his heart and he's never been able to love again. It's just a job.

Success would be nice for him I'm sure, but really he's just watching the ebbs and flows - the challenges and the learnings.

His whole manner seems to say "they didn't do it today - but one day they probably will, but if they don't... well I guess what will be will be".

That's handy zen in 2016. But the time for acceptance has passed.

But you're right to call the hierarchy to account. Nothing is stopping Richardson or even Campbell saying it's not good enough.
