Don't you think we could watch the kid actually play a game before we hail him as the next messiah![]()
And by mid year they're trade bait / candidates for delisting or have been branded "never to be anygood"Supporters of every club do they same thing. On the Sydney boards we are already comparing Craig Bird to Adam Goodes and Paul Kelly. There is even talk of giving Bird Paul Kelly's famous number 14 guernsey.
The Adelaide football club has signed its first AFL NSW scholarship player, 16 y/o Taylor Walker from North Broken Hill Football Club.
Taylor is a 186cm Key position player who has been a junior NSW state representative & menber of Broken Hill representative teams.
Adelaide football club recruiting manager James Fantasia beleives that the AFL's new scholarship program is a unique & exciting opportunity for young footballers in the NSW regions.
"Talor was able to present himself very well throughout the selection process and we beleive that he has a unique opertunity to further his development with additional resources & support from our experienced coaching staff," Fantasia said.
"Taylor is very excited about the scholarship and being an avid football club supporter, has been pinching himself with the thaught of running around the track with some of his idols."
NSW talent manager Darren Dennaman said: "Its fantastic for Taylor Walker," he said. "He recently appeared at the Burke Green Cup, which is a regional challenge event, and he realy dominated. It was great to see the Adelaide Football Club there and im confident his footy will continue to develop."
Sounds promising.A 17 year old, 190cm (with the potential to grow taller), that can take a contested mark (by the look of that) and kick goals.
Fine by me![]()
This is from when he was first signed incase anyone missed it..
Article from the PRIDE magasine june 2006
I just hope fans don't put too many expectations on him because all year he has been talked up as the next big thing in the AFL, but at the end of the day if he was in the draft he probably would have gone a bit past 25 in a draft that is considered to be quite good for the first two rounds. The big thing us fans need to keep our minds on is that he is good value for the pick we're getting him at, but he's not considered near the best forward prospects in this draft.
It tells me one thing, that Pride Magazine desperately need a proof reader, could that article have any more spelling mistakes?
sorry mate, I just typed it up real quick in about 2 minutes![]()
what does that mean?Hey, this is copied from someone that played on Walker in Broken Hill, from the Drafts/Trading thread.
"coming soon"....TBC...
Thorgils said:Taylor stands roughly 6" 3" about the same height as me because he stood eye to eye with me after he booted 7 goals on me in the local semi-final in Broken Hill. Although I had a spell in the ruck I spent most of the game attempting to man him up.
The kid is something special, in seven years playing at fullback the worst I had kicked on me was 4 goals and we didn't win a game that year. It was ridiculous, I tried and push him wide to the boundary with his leads but then he'd just kick from 55 meters and hit the post halfway up. I think he kicked something like 7 goals, 5 points (3 that hit the post) set up 6 and I spoiled roughly 5-6 so the kid really attracts the ball needles to say.
His father was a local hard nut who earned the named 'Wacky' Walker hence he has a bit of mongrel from the old man. He's got great speed for a kid of his size and by the fourth of fifth lead I was gone, so he's got plenty of endurance as well. I really cant sing his praises enough I played on Brent Staker whilst he was still here seen and played with Dean Solomon and this kid is better by absolute miles.
He takes a great pack mark, has a great work ethic and all the traits of a superstar. He's played against his own age group the best in the country and taken on full grown men who he has humbled by the way. To top it all off he a really nice kid. Good luck to all the crow supporter cause the power is strong in this one. You Crow boys couldn't let him go to hawthorn could you?
