Test Cricket Draft

Yeah, righto.

My first pick is an Englishman who is regarded by many as being one of the greatest quicks ever produced.

SYDNEY BARNES

A test bowling average of 16 doesn't lie. Played most of his career against the giants of Australia and South Africa, so no padding of stats Murali style. Claims to have been the creator of spinning variations which allow him to dominate with old ball as well as his swinging new ball exploits. When quizzed about whether he'd have been less effective on pitches in his older years, he basically laughed off the notion. Bloke had mad confidence in his abilities. Quite simply, a legend of the game.

This is a speculative pick; I have faith that I can choose certain players from other countries later on. #yolo

GRAEME POLLOCK

Known by many as the best left hand bat in the game's history; Pollock is nothing short of a legend. An average of 60 with the blade against some amazing bowlers shows the class of the man.

Choose, f***ers.

Wally Hammond

A giant of the game. In an era of Bradman dominance, this man kept England afloat, leading the way with his superb batting, his excellent fielding and his very good fast-medium bowling (which only suffered because he was too focused on scoring runs, said Bradman). A gifted player (and all-round athlete, for that matter) who has lived in the shadow of the Don, Hammond will prove invaluable to my team. Unlike thorne89's hyperbole about his two picks, this man is a genuine cricketing legend.

Sunil Gavaskar

Opening batsman who scored over 10,000 runs at 51.12, including some great innings against a supreme WI bowling attack. Held the record for most test centuries before Tendulkar.

I'm confused of how the order is working now. How'd thorne get two in a row?

I'm the first/last picker, so at the end of every second round I'll have 2 picks in a row.

i.e. 1 2 3 4 5 5 4 3 2 1 1 2 3 4 5 etc. I'd be 1

A bit risky picking my 2nd West Indian here but I need a bowler and the best available in my opinion were all WI players.

Malcolm Marshall
8136.jpg
With a Test average of just 20.94 and 376 wickets, striking every 46 balls in 81 Tests the late great Malcolm Marshall was one of the most feared bowlers of all time. His ability to swing it both ways and bowl a mean bouncer despite being shorter than most quicks made him incredibly dangerous. Just to add to that he wasn't the worst bowler with the bat either.

**** off, Athers.

Allan Donald. White lightning. The Dale Steyn on the 90s, only better. 330 Test wickets @ 22, striking every 47 balls. Another bowler I wish I was born a few years earlier so I could have seen more of him. Did plenty with the ball on helpful tracks, and seamlessly transitioned into a hit-the-deck quick on flat tracks. Always pushing 145kms and I think you'd find most batsmen of the 90s would place him at the top of bowlers they'd least like to face. The ideal new ball partner for Wasim :thumbsu:

Here's the ball from the photo above...
