Toast Tex 700 goals around the corner

So the flog has suggested Tex’s performance in big games needs to be questioned after his game against Collingwood.

If you’re going to troll at least have some truth to it.

Tex played 6 games against top 8 teams last year and kicked 19 goals. Including 5 against Collingwood.

He kicked another 5 against Carlton over 2 games who just missed, including 3 in the last game where we effectively started their run to miss the finals.

Chad's brother running out of targets to pot, so he's circled back to his old reliable, hating on Tex.

Just checking Tex’s stats this year, he is actually in unreal form since round 4. He’s averaged over 3 goals a game since then, and if minus the poor game against the Pies (1 goal), he’s averaged 4 goals per game.

Last 2 rounds:
- with Tex against the Saints, 5 goals, we win well.

- with no Tex against the Dogs, we lost bad.

Might Tex be still our most important player?

He is, not just with those stats.

He is also the true on field leader.

This is the danger of a small sample size. We have no idea. Especially when factoring Thilthorpe was injured as well meaning we effectively ripped apart the heart of a forward structure that was serving us well prior (and that will slow down decision making with ball movement). Plus of course, things can certainly snowball in an interstate game, where being 'off' can multiply.

After all, we have no idea if we ****ed up by going too hard at training, a cold/gastro ripped through the squad or another external factor that can hurt performances.

And if we take away every game Tom Lynch played except Rd 7, 2013, he averaged 10 goals a game! GOAT!

Obviously excluding Walker's worst games to analyse his goals per game is silly, but I think it probably is true that he's the most important player at the club. Everyone else has more like-for-like support and nobody else has as big an impact on our wins. On track for his 5th consecutive year leading the goalkicking. Given how he is going I think he will still be around next year, barring a major injury.

There is no danger to a small sample size in making an observation. Technically, we’re all doing this subconsciously if talking about the players this year. The only “danger” is when you form an opinion based on a small sample size and not willing to change an opinion if future stats are showing a reverse trend.

Tex is kicking 3 or more goals in 6 of his last 7 games (4,3,4,1,3,5,3). If he keeps up at this rate, he’s in some miraculous chance of getting to his 600 milestone this year (currently on 562 goals). And if he does, we’d be a darn good chance to make the Finals.

I mean, he is over the last 7 games, which also happens to include our most difficult stretch of matches for the year.
This is a 12 game stretch? He hasn't averaged 3 goals a game over a 12 game stretch since 2012.

He would finish the year on 64 goals which would be a career high. I just can't see it happening.

I suppose on the + side, he averaged 3 goals against some very good defensive sides. And that was with the yips for the first 3 rounds.

To finish the season we play GC x 2, WC x 2, North, Sydney, ESS and GWS who have all let in big scores against.

I would agree its highly unlikely. But also not impossible.

I don't think it's impossible. Should kick bags against North and WCx2.
It's a given he should play on next year at this rate anyhow.

Yeah, I think he's easily got this season and 1 more in him.

TBH when its all said and done, if he played until the end of 2025 with a bit of management i'd not be all that surprised.

Tom Hawkins has shown it's possible and with how we are trending I'm sure Tex would be doing everything to hold on for this wave.
If you told me in 2019 when the rebuild really started that Tex would still be playing in 2024 I think you would have been laughed off the thread.

Would love to see him make finals another time or 2 before hanging them up. Would be a serious credit to him

Taylor Walker is a superstar. I will be extremely worried once he hangs up the boots as i still cant see a clear future for our other forwards without him just yet...The players follow this guy, he has put this club on his back for over a decade and even yesterday he was the one addressing the players in one of the quarter breaks. Champion of the Adelaide Football Club.
