One week in the twos is OK if you're coming back from a short term injury. Not if you're coming back after 12 months off with a reconstructed knee.

I think most ppl are saying that considering where the twos are playing next week the risk is similar then being put back into the A grade... Worthy discussion i think.

Normally id agree with you but im leaning towards having him play melb tbh

Can anyone tell us what role Walker played up forward? Was he roaming like Pods or more like a FF?

Who says?

It's a false premise.

No number of SANFL games is going to prepare Tex for his first AFL game back. His first game back is going to be scary, exciting and distracting. For him, the team and the fans. Yes, he'll need to be eased in with very minimal expectations, but this will be the case no matter how many SANFL games he has played.

Now, you can either get it out of the way against Melbourne, or you can pretend sending him to some shithole in the country is going to do him any good whatsoever.

Don't think he will be selected as a sub, and don't think he will be selected after one game in the twos. The Clare Oval factor wouldn't play in to Sando's mind - he's either ready or he's not.

I wouldnt select him as the sub either... But we do have enough tall timber up forward that we could carry him if his out put is low.
One less mid rotation i think we could live with against melbourne.
If they dont pick him against melb they will pick vs the pies.
They are flying atm and we couldn t carry a player trying to find form even if it is tex.
If i were picking the team id put him in for melb.

Bottom line is it will be Tex's decision on when he puts his hand up for Senior selection and then it will be a match committee decision on whether to select him

So if Tex feels that he needs another run in the sanfl side that is what will happen

I'm as keen as hell to see Tex back however IMO it won't happen this week, Tex is coming back from a major injury and AFL footy no matter what opposition is a much bigger step and what ever the decision is it needs to best enable long term sustainability opposed to a quick win

Fair calls re: picking him vs Demons, I get the reasons.
I just don't think they will, and think another week or two is best.

I doubt they will either... The clubs and my point of veiw dont line up a hell of alot... Jenkins vs Smack was a massive point of difference early in season.
Either way i cant wait for the big fella to be going about his buisness on Adelaide Oval!!!!

Next weeks game is vs the Power reserves on a country oval. Reckon he'd be safer playing half a game vs Melbourne.

People please stop this half a game against Melb shite. You can't take a player into a afl game with a plan to play him for minimal qtrs only

The game is so unpredictable, injury can occur early in the game which would mean Tex would need to play a full game

FFS Tex gets selected for the AFL team when he is ready to play 4 qtrs anything less is just pure amateurish and irresponsible

Agreed. Also would be pretty irresponsible sending him out on a sub par surface in the sticks. But he has to play somewhere, will be an interesting selection night next week

It would be negligent to play anyone on a sub standard oval.

Surely the sanfl have ensured it is ok.

Regardless we can't put a players needs in front of a teams objective

It is a simple equation

1. If Tex and club believes he is ready to play a full game of AFL footy next week then he plays

2. If Tex and club believes he needs another sanfl game before selection then he has the option to pay either next week or the week of our AFL bye

2.

Do we have any formal proof that the oval s in sub par condition?

Nothing official i believe. Spackler may have seen it not so long ago and said it looked a sand pit?

Ok then we are all pushing for Tex's fast tracked selection based on one bigfooty poster view on an oval

Surely the sanfl has a duty of care for all footballers, not just Tex and with this in mind it should be reasonable to expect a surface that is equal to sanfl suburban grounds

They're less delusional than the crowd who thinks he's going to come in and hit the ground running from game 1 because he's had a month in the dribbler league.

Coming back from a serious injury is pants-shitting stuff. It doesnt matter how many "preparation" games you've played at the lower level. It's like wading into freezing cold water - you can delay the inevitable as long as you like but eventually your head will have to go under and no matter how long you've been waist-deep for, it's going to be uncomfortable.

And because it's pants shitting stuff it's just as much about Tex's mental readiness and his frame of mind and level of confidence and with this in mind it will be a collective decision on when Tex is right for AFL selection

Tex won't get fitter or stronger in the next game however he will get more confident, self belief and build on his touch

Not picking fights but Clare and it's oval is not 'some shithole' - it's a country ground. Many Clare and Barossa people make a big effort to see the Crows play each week so be polite. And if Tex's knee can't handle a country ground then I agree with pjcrow - he's not ready. And to quote him either he's ready or he's not. A game on the ground at Clare would be a good test, then take it from there - either another week or two in the SANFL or a part game against the Pies - we'll see. Quite frankly it will depend how he pulls up today knee and confidence -wise - and he has a great surgeon and team behind him who collectively will make the right decision.

I don't want Tex returning for partial games

He plays AFL when he is confident to play at this level

Fitness won't be an issue he has been in full training since xmas and has not missed a beat, it's more to do with hus confidence and touch
