I've always hated the "I wouldn't bring [player A] in, don't think he's ready," line. I think it's absolute bullshit. It's exactly how you f*cking tell what a kid's going to be worth. They need that AFL taste to know what to get ready for.

You don't go into the AFL superstar. You go into the AFL as a nobody and then once you taste it, you know what you need to do to get ready. You feel the strength difference, the speed difference, the skill difference. As soon as you hit 18 you are ready to play AFL. You probably aren't ready to hold your spot but you are ready to get your gameday touch so you know what is needed of you.

If Mcguire had a choice.. he'd surround himself with every Collingwood man he's ever known.

We're at breaking point with Buckley.. who does he meet for lunch to discuss the clubs future.. Peter Mckenna.

If you're dealing with Collingwood people.. then you shut yourself down from the rest of the world and what it has to offer.

Boys club mentality.. it's gotta stop!
You say that as though there is something wrong with "Collingwood people".

Some seem to think that if you're a senior coach who is not getting results.. then you can use every excuse under the sun to sympathize with him.

Part of any senior role is to deal with tough times.. you're not given a senior role if you 'CAN NOT DO THIS'. Buckley has failed dismally in this regard.

And to all the Buckley pro fighters.. time is of the essence in any role!

So kudos too you Doodles..
Buckley is currently enduring immense pressure and in my opinion is handling these "tough times" very well indeed. If he can steer us through this then his continued coaching future at Collingwood will be assured.

Wow. That is some serious optimism.
I hope your right but I think later on tonight we are going to be seeing some serious melts around here, and I will be part of it.
I do admire that your staying positive about it though. I would love it if you can shove this post down my throat one day.

The next two games will decide Bucks' immediate future at Collingwood. If we can get to 4-6 with a decent percentage we are back in the hunt for 8th. Lose the next two though and it's all over.

Personally I'm very confident of a win today.

Everything suggests that we should win today. Ironically that's what bothers me. We tend to lose what we shouldn't and win what we are not expected to.

I'm not posting about how he is handling himself in and around the club.. I'm posting about how he has managed to coach the team with an injury list and an injury free list.

Not great!

Mate I'm a Collingwood man through and through.. my family's history is 110% Collingwood.

But when it comes to decision making involving the club.. sometimes it's best to seek advice from impartial parties.

I think he's coaching well. We have generated more than enough inside 50s to win, unfortunately our forward line has been unable to reward us. I like the smaller forward structure we are going with today, and think that we will see a better result.

I am going to do some psycho analysis on you here, let's see if I am close.

There is a part of your brain that knows Buckley is not a good coach as much as you want him to be. But there is another part of your brain that desperately wants him to succeed. To get what he wasn't able to as a player. To stand up there on the dais holding the cup.
You don't want to accept he can't coach because your desire to see him succeed overwhelms it.

To be honest this is just me psycho anlaysing myself. But I have finally let go of the hope and accepted reality. Time for you to join us Jmac.

I'd love for Buckley to succeed.. but the club is greater than any individual. If this was John Blakey or some s kicker at the helm.. his head would have rolled a few yrs back.. not 6 yrs later.

Some romanticize about him way too much.. 'like how can this be true'.. 'how can a past great with such a brilliant football brain be so bad'.

If say he is tactically brilliant.. he offsets it by being a rather stubborn individual.. hence the bewilderment between the performance of the team from one week to the next.. I've never come out and said in 6 yrs.. i know what to expect of Collingwood this week. It's one thing to say this for a yr or even 2.. but I've been saying it for 6 and 1/2 yrs now. The brand of football has been well below par.. and some may say he's coached some great games.. of course he has.. being in the system for that long.. even a blind man can coach a great game.

There is no doubt in my mind that your first point is spot on. I too have been affected by it. The truth is if his name was Joe Blog no one and I mean no one would be defending him.
But ultimately we are emotional beings so that influences us.

I wasn't happy with the decision to appoint him as coach.. but i thought 'ok it's been done.. deal with it.. see what he's got to offer'.. all I've seen are shock trades.. shock retirements.. a bad game style even dating back to his first yr with a gun side.. and the list goes on and on..

I think he tried to start off his coaching career the right way.. things started f up a lil to the point where things started spiraling out of control.. taking care of one issue.. 3 issues arise.. taking care of another issue.. once again another 3 issues arise.. feeling overehelmed and panicking and making irrational decisions on the trade table etc..

The team hasn't made finals for 4 yrs.. playing below avg football.. who does Buckley endorse as an assistant coach to join him.. Sanderson. His good mate.

Decisions like this are ridiculous!

I can only speculate here.. but perhaps he has people surrounding him that he can control and won't question him. Perhaps he doesn't want his tactics challenged ridiculed discredited.

The major reason he is still at the club is to exonerate others who were involved in appointing him.

They're waiting for any opportunity they get for us to win a game.. to come out and put Buckley on a pedastool.. exonerating their own backsides in the process.

If we lose today.. please do the right thing by all of us.. and just throw in the towell Buckley.

I don't owe you anything.. particularly my time!

Spot on. I was exactly the same over his appointment.
The difference for me is I'm not saying he can't coach. I'm sure if he had GWS's list he'd be going great, but he hasn't, he's got the list he built.
I believe he's an OK coach, that doesn't inspire, or find a way to get his players to perform at their best. The coaching team at his side are equally uninspiring. Recruiting & player contract management has reflected our on field performace - both great & appauling.
Finally, he lacks flair with his coaching. Sheedy thew players around to fix issues, Bucks leaves them in the wrong position season after season.
You might say those are the reasons he can't coach, but i still say he'd be fine with a good list. He should go, but I say it's because of where he's taken our club as a whole, not just because of his coaching ability.

It's something he simply can not overcome.. like i said in the Carlton game day thread where a lot were saying we are a certainty to win.. 'cocobeware..a leopard never changes its spots'.
