Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

is this the longest match ever at the aus open?
Roddick v El Aynaoui went 4:59 for 21-19 in the fifth in 2003.

Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

I'd love to see the Nadal Federer final too but damn hasn't Verdasco earnt it if he wins this match?

Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

Muller vs Lopez earlier this tournament was 5 hours 45 min I think (or was it 4 hours?)... so the 5th set must be an absolute epic to beat that.
It was under five, there was an error made initially in the results recorded.

I was wondering why ESPN were saying this is the longest match of the fortnight. Didn't know there was an error in the Round 1 match

Verdasco. Amazing. Playing a shot like that on break point....

Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

how is he saving all these break points!

Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

Fair dinkum every time Verdasco looks like he's just about finished, he keeps finding something. Astonishing tennis!

Re: The 2nd Official 2009 Australian Open Thread

I sense that Verdasco is just about spent here....
Verdasco was just about spent early in the fourth, when Jim Courier, one of, if not the, most knowledgeable sports commentators I've heard, said that 'Rafa will win this match unless he injures himself', obviously implying that he would win it fairly easily in the fourth set.

And here we go. 0-30.
