Some critics lately from SEN, 3AW and sports 927 have all written off the Bombers lately in they're tipping competitions, At least 9 out of 10 critics would predict that Essendon will get the wooden spoon in the 2008 season and I don't know whether to write them off as well or believe in my heart and support the bombers fully. Obviously I can't rule us out because the season hasn't even started yet and secondly its too hard to predict.

For one we have hired a new coach this year and have lost two legends of the game, could this be the reason why we're been so underrated this preseason, or is it our mediocre game play and unpredictable turns of the game that is putting us down.

There's the upside of which that appointing Matty Knights could be the best thing that has happened to Essendon and that he's the motivation that our players need, we also have some great young players coming out of the 2006 draft who didn't get much of a chance last year who can step up and take a role in this side, and some of our other players like Jobe Watson, Brent Stanton and Jason Winderlich who still haven't shown their true colours yet could all step up this year and be what they were supposed to be...... GAME WINNERS.....

u should support them fully, even if they do become cellar dwellars :thumbsu:

Don't worry mate...They're only jealous we've got Stanton, Monfries, Ryder, Dempsey, Houli, Myers, Davey & Winderlich as our young brigade...;)

We are entitled to be written off by the "average punter" as on the surface there are signs that we will slip.

Losing Hird is the obvious one that people consider.
Losing Sheedy is another
Our senior players are generally our best performed players and we have not had a good enough input from our youngsters.
Unproven coach.

Essendons year is going to be dictated by 2 things in my opinion.

Injuries and improvement from inexperienced players.

As for what other people think, i don't see why people worry about it so much.

Make up your own mind how you think we will go based on available evidence and natural improvement.

But what ever happens stick thick and the wheel will turn.

It just might not be when the majority want it to.....

My attitude for the last few years has been 'wait and see'. This yearm its the same, but I'm 'waiting and seeing with optismism'. Each year we've gone in with an interesting mix of older and younger players that may or may not fire. This is the first year in a while where I've actually had confidence that the younger players will fire - perhaps not consistently, and not always together, but things are looking up, in my opinion, in a way that they haven't for some years.

I'm not going to try and call the ladder, coz that's silly... so many factors influence the outcome of a season - but I'll be more than happy to say we'll do "better" than most people are predicting.

it bugs me when they say the saints will make the top 8 with bribane and i also heard carlton as well.. what crap when we beat all these teams last year.

Written off, if the bombers were in the panel shop, and the insurance company saw the damage , the premium cost would be the Gdp of Kuwait.

But come on, these are the same experts that tipped Collingwood and the Kangaroos as Wooden Spoon contenders. They get it wrong more often than not. :thumbsu:

Unfortunately not only does a team win the flag but a team also finishes last. I'm not to concerned with how we'll go this year. Simply because our culture is so strong and we bounce back. We're rebuilding but doing it well with a host of new talent from the draft plus young players added in the previous 2 years that are now going to find their feet.

I'm really looking forward to this year to see a new and exciting side play a brand of football we all know will mean success in the long run. No matter what happens in terms of results this year there is one thing you can be certain of from an Essendon side more then any other. Effort. That will do me fine and who knows, they may win more then these so called critics think. Essendon forever.

Just remember the same so called experts wrote of the Kangaroos at the same time last year and look how well they traveled last year. This type of thing happens every year a few heavy hitting brains in the media runs down a team and everyone joins in thinking its a sure thing. I have no doubt the bombers will be using this to spring into 08 and will leave most sides for dead. You have a class side full of some of the best young guns in the AFL , I think you can finish anywhere from 7 to 4 . go bombers

Bombers are the hardest team to pick for me in 2008. Your youngsters have shown that they have game-winning potential (don't you hate that word). Whether it comes to the fore in 2008 is the question. For me personally I think you will have a not so good year, finishing anywhere from 10-14. This is mainly due to the fact that you have a new coach and that the youngsters have not shown enough consistency to convince me fully yet. However, I do believe that you will rise in 2009.

It's pretty clear to me that if we enjoy a fair/good run with injuries we'll be 6-8, but if we cop a few long term injuries to our spine or stars then we'll probably miss the 8.

Which is OK especially if Knights sticks to his principles and doesn't panic and keeps playing the young players like he said he would.

If there was one frustrating thing about Sheeds and his selections and/or recruiting over past 5 years it's been giving games to blokes like Heffernan, Bolton, Campo, Allan, Murphy etc at the expense of developing younger players. Only late last year did he finally give just about everyone on the list a taste of seniors but it wasn't enough games.

I've followed the Dons since the late 70's and apart from the premiership years, the most enjoyable years are when you do better than everyone expects and the young blokes play exciting footy.

TV, radio and print journo's write on yesterday's fish n chip papers, they haven't got a clue so don't worry about their predictions coz they mean bugger all. Plus fellow Dons fans don't get sucked in by hack Pies, Hawks, or Tigers supporters who are only predicting our demise coz they hate us and want us to go crap.

Ever since that 1993 season I never write an Essendon season off before it even starts.

I wait untill about rd 8 or 9 and then decide whether we're shit or not.

Of course every 'tipster' would think we have no chance of finals action this season. I would too if I didn't barrack for Essendon.

But I tell you this...in all my years following Essendon (since 1977) I have never been more excited about our list of young players as I am atm.

To all non-EFC fans who think we have nothing to offer in '08...just wait,it's coming...
