That we added Gibbons a midfield player, and then added Deluca as a midfield player?
But there's a difference between adding 1 and adding 2

Your original post was about why we added more mids, while we did the exact same thing with Gibbons
None of us know the truth, as to what and who told Deluca what. Just like some ITK have stated that SOS was overruled on others and Deluca was selected.

Given your example we already had Gibbons, so why did we need Deluca? BTW - We also had Murphy and ECurnow.
We had first pick in the draft and sell it any way you want - We f’ed it up...and 'especially' so if we promised 18 months and gave 6...Terrible.
De Luca wasn't promised anything, signed a 6 month contract.
The intention may of been for us to keep him, but things change.
Wondering who the doomdayers will blame for this one
Deluca's quote was very vague "I'm pretty sure we'd spoken about it earlier before being drafted" sounds more to me like someone clutching at straws. He clearly had a contract till the end of 2019 and didn't impress enough during that period to be given another one.Gibbons trained with us and had a full head of steam leading into the season.
Deluca had little time to get prepared and then be AFL ready mid-season.
That's still not the point though;
Gibbons as a rookie knew he had a full season to make good.
Deluca (according to him) was told he'd be on the list next year, but that didn't come to be. Maybe he's lying.....but if he isn't.....what do you think?
Different to adding Newnes, Martin both that can play through the middle, then adding draftees that can do the same?
Deluca was the wrong pick, no matter what position he plays
SOS didn't want Deluca, he was over-ruled.
This has been stated by several reliable posters.

Maybe no-one was telling lies but an ex player is sour that he is no longer on the list. Where is the media frenzy about the swans player who had the exact same thing happen to him?
OK, Deluca was the wrong pick, this has already been proven.
I would say that this is just as much on fit, as ability (either way, a massive stuff-up by the Club), but also that picking a mature player in the mid-season draft without a fit list-wise, is very different to how you pick in the 18 year olds in the ND.
Massive stuff up? Using a late pick that didn't work out isnt a massive error, many/most clubs have similar results with picks in the 4th round and beyond
Will neither make or break sustained success
it's wrong if we incinerated he would get longer - it's business if we think he isn't the future - it's sad that his life has been disrupted for a 6 months contract - rejection is a rotten, horrible thing - it's strength by us if we think we can fill his spot with a more quality player - it would be interesting to see whereabouts we were with the martin & eddie negotiations when we took him - I'm tipping they may not have even been on the horizon...........Wondering who the doomdayers will blame for this one
stamos serious question - are you ok?Pick 1 in the mid-season draft is not the same as a late pick, though.
And for it to fail in 11 rounds of football is pretty bad.
Yet we are applauding the list rebuild and quality of players drafted and traded over the last 5 years and punishing the guy charged with overhauling the list so it is finals capable.can't see us applauding our numbers and then 'punishing' the individual charged with attaining the members and financial result.
he suggested it was suggested - ultimately it has to be on the contract - the verbal proviso "let's see how you perform" is a very wide-flung one........De Luca wasn't promised anything, signed a 6 month contract.
The intention may of been for us to keep him, but things change.
Doesn’t reflect poorly on the club at all IMO. There are no guarantees in this industry and Josh is sooking it up because he wasn’t good enough. ‘I wouldn’t have taken the opportunity if it was a guaranteed 6 months’.. What rubbish.It's just bad all round.
Does not reflect well on the Club at all.
I do not like the club to go back on their word either, but this isn't suburban footy where everyone has to look each other in the eye later. This is the AFL, and this is a career for Deluca just as it was for SOS, Bolton, Trigg.Dodgy by the club then.
Don't like the way the club has done a few things lately.
Come on Harks. You post like you're hinting at some vast conspiracy, but then back off when someone accuses you of it.Layers?

I read the article - to have reneged isn't a great look, but I'm sure this isn't the only time this has happened and not only at Carlton. It's never a done deal until the black and white is in front of you.You may have missed the point though;
If Deluca was told he'd have the 18 months as he suggests and we reneged on our promise - This isn't good thing.
As above. Many individuals leave this club in a very unsatisfactory manner.
It's just the way we seem to do things and have been doing for quite a while now. I don't know why.
