So another person leaving St Kilda. My mum works with Dal Santo's wife and I've heard for a long time that Watters is destroying the club. I wouldn't be surprised if Laidley is leaving because of Watters.

Dean Laidley joins Carlton

The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce it has appointed Dean Laidley as Assistant Coach – Midfield, signing him to a two-year contract.

Laidley brings extensive coaching experience to the role, having spent the past two years as a midfield coach at St Kilda. In the two years prior to that he was an assistant coach at Port Adelaide.

The 46-year-old also has senior coaching experience, leading North Melbourne in 149 games from 2003-09 and taking the club to a preliminary final in 2007.

Carlton’s GM-Football Operations Andrew McKay says Laidley is a terrific addition to Carlton’s coaching ranks.

O.K. Now we still need that back-line coach and a couple of development coaches.

BTW: Welcome Dean. :thumbsu:

Dean Laidley – Midfield Coach (newly appointed)

Green to the forward line, Barker to the backline*. Interesting.

Just saw that. Barker to the back-line now and Green forward?

O.K. Mick must know what he's doing but it does come across just a little odd.

Laidley is an excellent pick up. Tactically he is one of the best in the business. He just has no idea how to make the side tick as a head coach. That's what Wiley and Mick is there for.

If we allow Laidley just to use his tactical strengths, this will be a great acquisition.

And there I was being told that Brad Green did a good job coaching the midfield last year yet here he is getting moved into a different role, why would that be I wonder ??

Securing someone of Dean Laidley's experience is a fantastic get for us, he will have an immediate impact I reckon.

Barker as backline coach ?? Well they have to hide him somewhere I guess.

I don't know much about Laidley, but have heard good things, so I'm trusting the club knows what they're doing :thumbsu:
I, however like many other posters on here, understand the appointment of Green to the forward line, but the Barker appointment has me scratching me head o_O

You do realise that Green was a development coach this year and that Wiley was the midfield coach, don't you?

Yes, that was given to me 'chapter & verse' by some of the other folk here but it still doesn't detract from the fact that he has been moved out of the role which has to make you wonder why when so many were saying he was good at it.

He's been promoted from development coach to forward line coach.

Let's give the guys a chance before we fire off too many shots.
The point is that Mick has put together what he wants and at the end of the day, he is the one pulling the reins.

Laidley didn't come along to usurp Mick.
He has worked together with him before and understands the message clearly.

Green as forward coach?
As long as the message is understood and pushed through then all good.
Only his second year of coaching, has a good brain and is very determined.

Barker as back-line coach?
The guys are pretty much running their own ship down there now.
Mick will work closely with him as he does with his other coaches. Barker has not got full control of the back-line. No assistant coach does.
