one thing that puts Edwards in front of McGuane automatically for me is he is a dead eye dick in front of goals, inaccuracy really cost us big time last year.
You mean he wouldn't miss from within the goal square ?

It takes more than being a dead eye dick to fit into Hardwicks game plan..... Whats holding Edwards back would be the same reasons that held him back at North. Hopefully under Dimma he can work on his game and become more than a 1 trick pony.

McGuane didnt miss dude, he hit the post smack bang with his boot...its not his fault the post seemed to move on him. ;)
Never fumbles either , just every time he goes to grab the footy a freak 500klm wind blows it off it's path .

You need to see it this way dude. Anything more than 0 and we are in the bonus territory. ;)

After thinking similar with Grigg and seeing the change in attitude Dimma has been able to get , it wont surprise me if by season's end if ' the one trick pony ' becomes ' a Nut screwing stallion '. ;)

I have no problem with that except the Nut screwing... you didnt have to turn this into a farm related attack you sheep milking cheese maker....

I would like us to treat Edwards like the swans did Morton, Make him earn the respect and trust of the players on the training track and in the 2's before he is given a seniors guernsey.... Seeing Edwards line up round 1 wouldn'tsit well with me given his past record.

I see his talent and would love nothing more than him reaching his potential with us. But sticking A. Edwards (the Kanga's model) straight into our side because he can kick straighter than Mcguane is comical.

what if that meant that he was the difference between winning and losing against carlton ??

He would be the player that tanktown would really struggle against after putting their best defenders on Vickery & Riewoldt. Edwards could really be the player that cuts loose

I think we'll start off with:

HF: J.King/Nahas, T.Vickery, Knights
F: S.Edwards, J.Riewoldt, A.Edwards

A.Edwards: 10 game, 17 goals

Ideally I'd like to see one of Elton or Griffiths developed as the CHF. I'm leaning towards Elton as Griffiths can play down make and take the monster forwards, however Elton's not ready just yet. So the three talls with Shedwards in the pocket and Knights/Nahas on the flank with Martin, Cotchin, Deledio rotating through there. Vickery is that third tall that can help Maric out in the ruck. It'd be a very dangerous forwardline with Vickery (200cm), Riewoldt (195) and one of Elton (197) or Griffiths (199).

So long term:

HF: R.Nahas/Knights, Elton, Martin
F: T.Vickery, J.Riewoldt, S.Edwards

Too earlier for me but I like Elton's apparent straight line speed. Not sure if he is mobile enough for CHF. I think he could make a FF type S Beasley style. Hoping he can pinch hit ruck to!!

The thing I like about our forward line this off season (from what I've heard/read so far) is that we've not only improved the quality of players available who can play as forwards (Edwards, Knights, Petterd, Donoghue etc) but I saw the club is trying to address 2 key issues with our forward line in 2012. The first was our goal kicking conversion rates - we missed too many goals simply (I think the second Melbourne game and the second bombers game we kicked over 20 behinds in each!). If we take our chances and convert on the scoreboard, it puts the opposition team under more pressure and ultimately should help us snare a few more wins (specifically from games we lost narrowly) but to also add to our percentage which may be important given the number of teams also trying to make the 8 (superior percentage is effectively 2 premiership points/i.e a draw) as the teams on the same number of points will still finish below the teams with superior percentage.

The second thing they are addressing (according to Mark Williams - not the choco variety) is using the ball better when going forward. We all saw it last season, many times we bombed it into the 50 only for the ball to stream out more often than not a few seconds later. I think a big reason for that happening (apart from maybe the inexperience of younger players lacking the composure to assess their options) was due to a lack of a decent CHF/HFF options. Some people here don't rate Vickery but I rate him immensely. I think he can take his game to a higher level but the main reason I rate him is the value he brings to the side in terms of structure. He provides another key forward target (with great mobility for his size) as well as a relief in the ruck (we all saw how Maric really struggled late in the season last year from both nursing his body through the last few games but also from carrying the ruck load almost single handedly all season). If he can contribute as a forward with goals and taking a defender away from Jack AND help Ivan with the ruck work - would be a huge plus for the side IMO. When Vickery went down, another reason we struggled going forward was that there was a gulf along the HFF line - there was no one to link the midfield to the forward line. Knights will play in this role and his strong kicking will hopefully ensure we are kicking it to our advantage more often than resorting to bombing it. Edwards also addressed another area we lacked in a genuine marking alternative to Jack - he will also help improve our conversion at goal with his elite goal kicking from set shots. Some reports have said he has been impressing on the training track so hopefully we see a lot of him in 2013. I'd be very happy if Knights and Edwards could hold down spots in our best 22 and play all 22 games.

The reason of A Edwards ahead of McGaun (& dont tell me deep down you dont believe this too) Is that when Edwards get the ball you'll have a feeling that something might happen. As apposed to the feeling of "how's he gonna **** this up" when McGaun gets it.

Whats comical is i'd have more confidence in wrangling a chimp from Melb zoo & throwing him out there in a Richmond jumper than I have in McGaun

Anyone who can get the word wrangling into a sentence is alright in my book:D.

ive got time for mcguane, and when we drafted him he was a forward.but lets be honest we are going nowhere fast if he is a regular starting key forward.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that A. Edwards has to take the forward spot from Luke and until he can earn it, Luke has it given his runs on the board from last season. But if the coaches believe he has earned it on the track etc. I'll back their call.

Do runs on the board include tripping over yourself in the goal square? Edwards has shown so much more at AFL level than McGuane it's laughable. My numerous Kangaroo mates are still disappointed that they got rid of Edwards and they along with I can see him being a dangerous 3rd forward in our set up.

no one is willing to name a forward line with both King and Nahas in it. The deisre to squeeze an third tall (and/or Edwards) in seems to leave no room for both in the same team. Im not agreeing or disagreeing - but the coaching panel seem very fond of the difficulty on matching up on both of them simultaenously presents and the defensive pressure they have shown such a hunger to provide, so I find it hard to believe that when fit, both of them wont be there. An extra tall or big may also leave the forward line a little slow around the packs.
