I'm tipping Conca to improve a lot, and Brad Helbig is my smokey to suprise.

My prediction: Lindsay Thomas. He goes to water having set shots, and towards the end of the year he was being used across half forward as a deliverer to the forwards. He won't need to have set shots at goal from there, and if he keeps this role up he could have a fantastic year.

Rats.

Lindsay Thomas was going to be my left-field nomination too. If he can sort out his mental demons when shooting on goal he will be an AA calibre player. He amassed a huge amount of shots on goal for a small forward in 2011. Just didn't convert.

He also needs to iron out some other deficiencies. Playing for free kicks is definitely one.

Kyle Reimers - shown plenty of ability in patches & looks to slowly be getting the selfish aspects out of his game, if he gets it all together could become a very dangerous player, wouldnt want to tread water for much longer tho

I would've thought Essendon could push hard for a top 4-6 position if Gumby gets up this year.

You are overrating him a bit there.

My tip is Melksham, has played well in patches but after his 3rd pre-season it I think he will start being consistent and show that he will be a good player for us.

3 from North

Ben Speight: X factor, good disposal, pace, Speight has all the tools required to be a handy Leigh Montagna-esque type.. Would say he needs to improve his fitness, but i think 'meatballs' will be our sub every week..

Aaron Mullet: Everything coming out of North since the end of the season has been about us trying to improve our skills from the backline, so for Mullet who's brilliant left foot got him a rookie promotion late in the year it is his spot to lose on one of the back flanks

Ayden Kennedy: Taking more of a punt with this one compared to the last two but Kennedy who has been often injured since we drafted him in 09 will be entering his 3rd season yet to play an AFL game, however he is a prototype "third tall" with great athleticism who will seem some games this year just so Scott can make the call on whether to keep him on our list.

1) I hope he doesn't get pigeonholed as the supersub. He's in our best 18 in my opinion.

2) I think he's a tad overrated on our board. His kicking looks cool but it's not exactly elite. He's also a fair way off physically at this stage. Plenty of talent to work with though.

3) Personally, I reckon he's perfect for CHB.

Wouldn't be hard to improve on the disaster of his 2011 season. Ever thought his hogging of the ball combined with being left on his own contribute to his many failed scoring attempts. If he ever does manage to play a good game again, he will get easily shut out for the following weeks. Having Thomas as a loose forward is just about the best odds of winning a close game you can have as an opposition and this tactic cost North any chance in at least 2-3 close games in 2011.

I am desperately trying to sell my house in subiaco before pre-season training starts as I am worried Chris Masten will train it down again.

It's not about Gumby. It's about the players he releases. Hurley would be the best CHB in the league if allowed to play back.

Considering he's a player who it is expected will perform to a good level then...

No, he shouldn't be included in this thread.

Nor should players like Higgins or Ryder.

This thread is for the unheralded player.

Only a 'good' level??? Zac Dawson playes to a 'good' level, yet only cost St Kilda $250,000. For 300% more than that I would want him to play at AA squad level. MINIMUM

From the Swans,

1. TDL, will likely force his way back into the team
2. (Hopefully) White will rediscover his end of 09 form
3. SPANGHER!!!!!!!!! Was really impressed with his end to the season, is actually really good playing a lead up HFF, gives 100%

Late addition who may actually improve the most.

Craig Bird, former first round pick, started the season really well, but ran out of puff towards end of year struggled to run out games, if he builds a better fitness bases could be a very similar player to K.Jack

Carlton have quite a few.

2011 injureds:

1. Lucas: Most would have forgotten how could he looked prior to injury setting him back in '10
2. Bower: As above but for '09. Running freely now.
3. Collins: Injury and that horror game against the Dons derailed his '11
4. Russell: No pre-season and injury took care of '11 for him. The only way is up.

Improvers:

1. Tuohy: May be too much to ask for him to improve at the rate he has in the past year, but will be a regular next year.
2. Mitchell: Will play in 2012. One to watch out for.
3. Hampson: The endorsement was there with a three year contract, and will get game time.
4. Laidler: Will clearly get even better.

*sigh*

Take the chip and your shoulder and leave buddy, I'm not interested.

Bit obvious but Wellsy.
Another injury free pre-season (aside from the blood clot) and he will begin dominating games. Potential top 15 player in the AFL.

Also Trengrove about to step into the spotlight now that Scullys gone.

Liam Jones to go to another level
Allen Christensen to consolidate and go on to be a real star

I don't rate Jones tbh. Whenever i've watched him he's seemed to crack at critical moments. I remember a game this year when he spilt an easy mark about 40m directly in front, under no pressure. He also sprayed an easy shot.

Christensen will be a gun! same with Menzel and Duncan. I probably rate Menzel the highest, he will be a real weapon for the cats in the future

Not to be too harsh but isn't he expected to miss half of next season as well?
Very hard to improve on this years performance with the sort of stuff he's going through.

Can't see him ever being a top 15 in AFL to be honest, but would be good of him to try hit this years form again.

Jones is nowhere near the finished product; however he is a ripping contested mark.

People creaming over Butcher should be creaming doubly over Jones.

Everyone LOVES Sam Reid, yet Jones had nearly the exact same output as him this year. Both have trouble with set shots, both are awesome contested marks. When Jones sorts out his kicking, he will be a very good CHF.
