The lucas draft!

Hhhhhhmmmmmmmmm i bet some of you are wishing we had talia on our list now given this weeks ins and outs

And before some of you jump down my throat, im happy to have lucas on our list, just wish we went for a tall in that draft as well, not saying we use pick 11 or 12 or whatever number it was that we got lucas.

Just sayin!

It's against the rules

Despite what anyone on this forum might say..Ratts WOULD be losing sleep over his lack of KPP depth. It 100% explains his mandate to WHs last year for KPP prospects in the 2010 draft.

I'm very sure they will try and pull out some mature age rookie cover for 2012. It defies logic to not do so.

You've argued pretty well on the Fevola thread even though I disagree with you on that matter, but don't ruin that here.

Ratten losing sleep over KPP depth is not the same issue as losing sleep over picking Lucas instead of Talia. Not sure why you are claiming it to be so.

Ratts would no doubt be lamenting the injuries to our taller players but that in no way means he'd be regretting the decision to select Lucas rather than Talia in the draft.

Key players who've been affected by injury this year include bower, Jamison, Waite, Henderson, white, ohailpin. At the moment (until Watson, mcinnes and co come on) they would comfortably be six of our best talls. If we lost six of our best mids for extended periods how do you think our midfield would look. If we'd lost 6 of our best mids (let's say Judd, murph, simmo, Robinson, Gibbs and Scotland) you'd be on here saying why'd we pick so many talls last year when we could have had "insert midfielder".

We're currently missing jamo and Waite, our best forward and defender. Before losing them we were flying. I don't know much about talia, but i do know there's no point whinging about the past, so move on

Agreed...he would not be losing sleep over Talia...just lack of depth in talls :thumbsu:

That may well be true, but I'm not sure that Talia would have him feeling any more the comfortable right now.
On best form Lucas was an easy choice for the recruiters over Talia, so I'm not sure why subsequent circumstances should change that now.
His form prior to his injury, for those that choose to remember, was very impressive.

As for mature aged rookies? It will depend on what's available.
Let's not get sucked into a though process that tells us that any 196cm. 96kg. backman from lower leagues is better than what we currently have.

I guess that's where that a Trengove would be extremely appealing for the fact that he can ruck as well.
I don't know what the future holds, but we may be getting to a point we carry only one genuine ruckman into a game and have one forward and one back, that can do an adequate job.
Easier said than done, but that may well be the desired model somewhere down the track.

Dont know how you can say that it was easy. One pick between them! I know WHs might have had Talia 20+ in his own list...we will never know but we do know he rates him as they inquired about him for Jacobs who at the time everyone though might be able to snag a first rounder for.

Add to that 1 year later Ratt delivered a mandate to draft talls...if Talia and Lucas were in the 2010 draft and we needed talls still, WHs would def have picked Talia over Lucas given Ratts mandate!

Anyway, Lucas is a needed player..a fast outside mid/winger...Gibbs is our other outside player, albeit much slower...I seriously hope that is our quota of outside players going forward.

Supporters on this board need to open their eyes a little with players like Trengove, Clark and Carlisle etc...we can't afford the price - not even close

We need to find KPP depth players from left field.

There is a difference.

We have ongoing evidence that our talls are carrying recurring injuries...Bower hasnt been unlucky just now...he has been an onoing injury concern...Jamo and his body has fallen every year at some stage...Setanta and Waite also...they are THE WALKING WOUNDED. If you have these type of players you need planned backup???

None of the key mids are perennially injured enough to warrant more backup. Diff story with the KPPs

Mids who could have a shot: Judd, Murph, Gibbs, Simmo, Curnow, Ellard, Mclean, Lucas (cover), Yazzle(cover), Betts (cover), Russell (cover), scotland, Kruezer (lol).

The point is...in dire need the cover is there for a mid if he goes down. Judd out injured..Gibbs will just have to step uo full time...a close class match.

Now compare that with Waite...well, er...Thornton. Ok, now let's look at the back replacement last week...Jamison, for...err Watson.

The diff in DIRECT depth replacements IS alarming.

Mids who "could" have a shot? :) BG2011, what are you saying?

For starters you ratio out your mids at 4:1 against KPD.
Secondly, after Judd and Murphy, the primary mid department falls off dramatically.
We can rattle off names at an alarming rate, but we can't substitute the quality.
Given another key mid, and we're flying.

Ok, you've won Harker...please draft more mids

Don't be silly BG2011.
The only say I have is for the keyboard punching I execute from here, which in the scheme of things amounts to ....................nothing :)

If we plucked Trengove through the trade period, I'd now be as happy as you but I'd also pop a cork if we struck upon Caddy.

Whichever way, I just wish we could keep our boys on the park, as our arguments here would be somewhat diminished. :thumbsu:

True :thumbsu:

versatility is the key to modern footy players. 1 dimensional players cannot cut it anymore. So a player must really have the physical shape and skills to play all over the field. Traditional positions don't really exist anymore. Lucas is the mix of attributes that should see him able to fill this perfectly providing his body is strong and he works hard. 1st year ticked many boxes. 2nd has not. The 3rd will be interesting

Harks, not too many teams wouldn't fall off dramatically if they lost their 2 best mids. How would the Pies cope if Pendles and Swan went down?
