When people are talking about how good Melbourne 's effort is up to 3 quarter time something has to give.

They average 1 goal a quarter, this is a joke.

Looking like the second 90+ loss in a row despite a marked improvement in effort from the players... I don't know what to make of this. Is it just a lack of skill, lack of execution or just a terrible game plan?
I watched the first half.

The players simply cannot hit targets by foot.

i don't really see what getting rid of neeld will do.

he seems like a bit of a disciplinarian which is probably what melbourne need, but doesn't seem like what the players want.

he's made some strange decisions like the captaincy thing. both are fine young players, but they were probably next in the chain after nathan jones.

they're coming from a long way back unfortunately.

It's all of it they need to go for the superflood and turn games into a proper scrap.

But what does a superflood teach them in the future?

They tyr, but when you can't even get the basics right like setting up at a stoppage, how are you supposed to be competitive.l And that is the coaching. Getting rid of Neeld at least shows they don't accept gettign routinely thrashed. Just sitting there and accepting it, week in week out does not send the right message to the supporters, becasue they aren't turning up and it is going to hurt heir bottom line a lot.

Any coach that doesn't know why his team loses is useless. At the moment, they are so bad that puttin in effort is the benchmark for them, not the scoreline.

Neeld's coaching style didn't match Melbourne's list, he has done a re-build because of this, as GWS and GC get the cream, Melbourne are getting scrapes which has caused the mess we now see.
Neeld should never have been offered Melbourne, and Neeld should never have excepted.
I don't think he is that bad a coach, it's just the Melbourne lust was not suited to him.
Coaches have to start not being afraid to say no if the job isn't a good fit for them.

Neeld must go

Despite what people say, sacking the coach mis-season often has a positive effect on club & player morale. Players who had forgotten how to play or were going through the motions suddenly lift their intensity and start playing for the jumper.

5 wins, 28 losses,
PF: 2304, PA: 3796, 60.7%
Average score: 70 vs 115

Nobody can coach the current list and where their skills are at

They've been doing that. Against Richmond and Hawthorn they employed the flood.

Nick Vlaustin and Ollie Wines look far superior already. What the f*** is wrong with the development?

I see poor Jimmy Toumpas is developing Melbourne first round pick syndrome.

It would be convenient for fans of teams who had later picks to suggest that Toumpas has already been Neelded. I think it's very hard to be a good player in a terrible side, the side has no confidence, and nothing seems to work. It's not so much Toumpas who is becoming rubbish, it's the system which is letting him down. If you look at Morton and Watts, they actually played in some semi-decent Bailey sides, they were just crap. Toumpas is different, he's a quality player being brought down by a crap club.

Guys like Vlastuin are having the time of their lives playing for a club which is to an extent organised which allows him to play outside receiver. Toumpas has been thrown in the middle which is tough for the kid. It's unfair to compare Toumpas to Vlastuin right now.

Bailey did okay with the raw talent.

Neeld systematically takes good young players and makes them into ten touch plodders after 5 games in the Seniors.

Disagree

The talent is not as bad as it looks

The players are directionless, lost and playing without any passion

I reckon you'd see instant improvement if they changed coaches and just went back to basics for the remainder of the year

When do Melbourne and GWS meet? Honestly that match is the worst ever in AFL/VFL history

That is terribly unkind to GWS. They have been showing real development in skill and endeavor. Certainly took it right up to Geelong before running out legs, so many kids.

Melbourne today started with some feeling, but finishing and skills were not there. Fell away rather too quickly.

Yes and Neeld has helped make that happen.

He isn't the only cause, but there is no point keeping a problem just because you can't get rid of all the problems.

Maybe keep him until the end of the year then pay him out.

No one seriously thinks he should get another season do they?

You don't need to be an expert to see Melbourne just aren't playing as a team

That's the job of the coach - to harness the individual talent and get them to play as a team
For whatever reason, Needl has failed to get it done

You could assemble a group of 22 players with half the talent of Melbourne and if they played as a unit, they would kick the Dees' arses.

Who cares if they pay him out now? They've still gotta pay him either way.
May as well pay him out and share the caretaker coaching duties between each of the assistants

I can't see what purpose it serves to keep him around for another 11 weeks of 10-15 goal thumpings

It's a lot easier to look good in a winning team. The players who look good in bad teams are absolute champions, and for a young player to look average around a terrible team is not unexpected.

He has played 4 AFL games FFS.
