No, this has been building all year.

All the punch ons in the crowd in the early rounds had everyone screaming "Where's the security?"

Now they're beefed it up now after a couple of abusive fans and all of a sudden everyone is bitching.

Looks like they've gone over the top though. The AFL as usual have gone to ground and denied there's a crackdown. The best thing they could have done is explained it instead of going the Sgt. Schulz route.

That’s true too, but if the afl are good at one thing, it’s controlling the narrative.

Tbh that’s giving the afl too much credit. Washing the Goodes effect away is probably just a coincidence.

The fights, and the regularity of them too, were just awful. Something needed to be done obviously, like you say this has just gone way too far.

The timing of the Goodes thing makes sense for the sudden escalation. Whilst the measures have been building, the latest measures only massively escalated and originated with the afl believing they were in the wrong with Goodes.

It’s was a culmination of events I would suggest.
