Traffic cops tend to focus on the easy stuff (speeding, seatbelts, phone use) because they are money spinners and you get reward for effort. You could drive around all day looking to catch a dangerous driver in the act, but park your car around the corner from a school zone and you'll nab a dozen people doing 47 km/h in an hour.

I think the penalties for being a dick should be harsher. The number of people who cross unbroken lines in the section of Freeway from Mill Point Rd to probably Loftus Street (both directions) is staggering.

The biggest place of concern re: unbroken lines is Tonkin Highway on the approach to Hale Rd. I'm not sure what the solution is for cars wanting to turn right on Hale from the Roe Highway off ramp (I think they're meant to turn left and turn around at the roundabout), but it's a ridiculous bit of road in its current form.

Leaving aside dangerous driving being inherently underpoliced (which I agree with) I firmly agree with police cracking down drivers doing close to 50 in a school zone.

There is zero reason to be going that fast, school zones are fairly short and kids are more unpredictable.

Gas in Perth is cheap right now so I keep filling balloons with it. I've drained my swimming pool and am keeping the gas balloons in there.

When the price finally goes up I'll have a cheap supply to start using for ages.

People whinge about utilities prices going up each budget but are they really that bad? My power, water and gas combined would be about $200-250 a month. Obviously families use more but I still run a fridge, lights etc. I don't even notice utility bills relative to the cost of shelter.

Often depends on how you heat or cool your home. Our aircon causes a big jump in our electricity prices every summer. Water rates have gone up a bit, gas has definitely come down. Swings and roundabouts.

They probably have the aircon set to 20 deg on all day and night and 15 minute showers.

The reduction has come about as a result of competition being introduced to the market

My latest power bill is $575 and that's pretty good for this time of the year. It's all relative though - I have five adults living here with a pool pump that runs for about 6hrs a day, two fridges, 2 aircons, 5 televisions and all the other appliances that go with 5 people living in a house. Power is cheap in WA so I have no intention of having a whinge but I do feel for people who don't have the same level of income we do and that utility bills are a constant source of pain

Water on average around $350 and I'm always amused when the water authority tells me that I'm using more than others that live in the area - considering on either side of me are single person homes, I'm not surprised.

My parents whinge about power bills while blasting air-con round the clock all summer and gas heater round the clock all winter
