The Nyoongars have the seasons right. Don't know why we don't modify the four season European model. Recognise the people who have lived in these conditions for millenia.

How much has the cost of EFTPOS gone up for retailers?

My local pizza place (Marco's Pizza) now does 10% off every order if you pay with cash because they don't want to pay the new EFTPOS rates.

With the removal of surcharge, the % per transaction has businesses less inclined to use the machine. EPFTOS can be something like 600-700$ a month for me.

Nyoongar people have six seasons and February/March is named Bunura and they are the hottest months

http://www.bom.gov.au/iwk/calendars/nyoongar.shtml#bunuru

Here ends your weather lesson for today

Agree with Beerfish, this was interesting.

The Nyoongar seasons can be long or short and are indicated by what is happening and changing around us rather than by dates on a calendar. Aligning Nyoongar seasons with Western calendar months can provide an overview of a typical year.

This is what I expected to see given the Gregorian calendar was a colonial introduction. Our 3 month season thing is pretty arbitrary. I was in Melbourne for the GF in 2015 and it was pushing 30 degrees that weekend, while in 2017 there was still good snow up at Falls Creek.

Do these 6 seasons mean anything significant in terms of observance? I.e. when February 28/29 ticks over to March 1 we declare it's Autumn but nothing actually changes. If a certain event or events triggers the changeover from one season to the next and all of a sudden everyone starts burning pockets of the land etc. or is (was?) it more a case of people just acknowledging the change and going about their business?

I have to say that Nyoongar calendar looks better and much more relevant to us

Technically it would be Nyoongar seasons rather than a calendar. As the seasons are determined by external patterns such as weather, animals and plants rather than dates.

But yes the 6 seasons makes more sense than 4, especially if we don’t use the correct dates and the solstice.

I'm a strong believer that Perth has four months of summer (December to March). This climate calendar (which I think is quite accurate) and the BOM's historical climatological data strongly back that up.

I generally work off the theory that the week of Anzac Day is when we get closer to winter than to summer.

Yep. my recollection of perth is summer is mid dec to end march. Autumn is short. Just april. Any trees that lose leaves happen quick.
Winter (destructive cold fronts) start may and goes to august (cold mornings still). Spring then sep to mid dec.

which marries with the dates we should be using

Summer Solstice
Dec 21, 22:22

Autumnal
Mar 20, 16:15

Winter Solstice
Jun 21, 10:07

Vernal
Sep 23, 01:54

Is $1,100 for removing 4 non asbestos eave panels and replacing them (not including painting) a fair cost? Seems kind of expensive to me?

I would have expected just over half that

A days work $500 plus materials ($200? including disposal)
