Part 4 is here:

It’s a mask, you colossal doughnut. Proven efficacy, worn by doctors, whose intelligence so far outstrips yours they could explain it you, alas cannot understand it for you. Stop being the biggest blouse in this thread and put a damn mask on.
Proven efficacy under ideal conditions which include limited time of use, correct fitting etc. The things that aren't all that ubiquitous.

The primary benefit of masks for most of the people of WA is to avoid being fined for not wearing one.

Then is the social benefit that comes with feeling part of the solution by doing something in a circumstance under which you have minimal control.

The next benefit is for those who don't know they are infected and it minimises the shedding.

Much further down is the healthy people being protected from unhealthy people by wearing a mask. Let alone the same one they use every hour of every day.

So there is a value, but most of the value to most people is intangible.

We do need the people who are unknowingly infected to wear masks though.

The mask is at least as much about symbolism as it is efficacy because it influences behaviour.

People have a ready reminder to social distance. They have an obstruction on their face that reminds them about touching their face. Which reminds them about cleanliness of their hands.

As a cue for beneficial behaviour I think masks do a lot of work.

I felt from the very start constantly calling him the 'Melbourne case/man' was some subtle way to try and shift the publics perception of the blame to the eastern states.

100%, I went onto his fb page yesterday and vented my spleen about it. Nasty little, divisive prick.

He caught it in your filthy hotel McClown, the one that you were told more than two weeks ago wasn't up to the task.

It's infuriating that ABC News has to go to the trouble of posting on Facebook to correct misinformation.

Spitty_the_alpaca well done on following fake news peddlers.

Is this the same ABC that told us all that a dance troupe were twerking at Garden Island in Sydney in front of a heap of dignitaries that weren't actually there at the time?

The Melbourne man is not considered a WA case. I explained it above. There were numerous recalculations like that during the first wave, where cases were shifted from jurisdictions depending on where they resided.

Does it matter? It's still misinformation that is potentially harmful to the public. Do you prefer NewsCorp over ABC?

People need to stop getting so pissy about others not wearing masks. Realistically they do nothing.

I can't believe how much this whole thing has turned people into busy bodies. The Perth subreddit is full of people encouraging others to report people they know for breaching rules and taking joy in people getting fined. What a bunch of ****ing losers.

A nation of rats is what we're becoming.

It doesn't matter if he's not a WA case, he contracted it in a WA hotel and all we've heard from McGowan is, Victorian, Victoria. He's a fraud.

Your hero is at the end of his tether, it's great to see the horrible little man start to squirm.

He was happy to spend 11 or so months lobbing hand grenades over the great wall of WA. It's funny how whenever something does go wrong, it's the fault of the dirty eastern staters or the federal government, never his. He just squeals and puts his hand out for more.

It does matter, because you and the usual crew were complaining that he and his government were calling the others 'case 986' and such but no such designation was given to this man - ignoring that he is not numbered because he simply isn't counted as a WA case. How else would you designate this man to identify him in media reports?

Hotel quarantine is something that is not ideal - we all agree on that - and I'd argue according to the Constitution the Federal government should take a lead role in it too. If it turns out the State government is at fault for this community transmission then they should cop some of the blame too, I never said otherwise.

Well, maybe he's a sovereign citizen because Vic didn't count it as ours. Could call it the Hotel Quarantine case or the returned traveller case, the "Melbourne man" is clearly designed to shift focus. I think most people would see that for what it is.

You could designate him as the interstate man, the returned traveller man all sorts of other ways, all McGowan has said repeatedly is Victoria, Victorian.

Quick, look over there, it's a scary Victorian. We infected him in our not fit for purpose hotel, but we'll send him home to Victoria and then blame him / them.

...and now poor Mark is at the end of his tether.

Do you think McGowan and the people of WA would be happy to let the federal government come in and take control of state and privately owned facilities and take charge of the quarantining on behalf of the state?

No, of course they wouldn't.

This is what state and territory leaders agreed to and signed up for at the beginning of this mess, none of them wanted to give up control and now here we are with Mark at the end of his tether over first 1 and then 2 cases. You couldn't make this stuff up.

It designated it as Interstate, not Western Australia.

Does that not say that a new case was acquired interstate? We know he got it in WA, but he is part of Victoria's figures for current cases.

Edit - oh wait you're thinking WA should have classified him as 'acquired overseas'. That's not helpful because WA has had plenty of 'acquired overseas' that aren't an issue, it's the ones that manage to escape quarantine that are the real issue.

Yeah, obviously you've made your mind up. Not bothering.

Clearly both the ABC and news.com.au are in on the propaganda machine with McGowan:

To date, two people have been confirmed to have contracted COVID-19 via community transmission, after a Victorian man likely became infected while in Perth hotel quarantine.

He reiterated his views on Saturday and again on Sunday in the midst of a three-day snap lockdown, sparked by a person who went to India for a wedding then passed it onto a Victorian man while they were quarantining at the Mercure Hotel in the Perth CBD.

States took control because the federal government wanted Australians to “live with it” and we’ve all seen how that’s turned out for other countries who did the same thing.

The federal government also did not want to spend the money required on quarantining and again states had to step up otherwise people would of just been walking out of airports unchecked because according to federal police - their responsibility stops as soon as they come through customs

I’ve no doubt that the use of the word “Victorian/Melbourne man” is very much for political purposes - it helps in appeasing people that it’s not really happening here in Perth but in Victoria and we are only playing safe and the reality is they had to say where he was heading so that state was prepared

It’s always about politics and nobody wants to take responsibility for anything so it’s easier to try and deflect the blame

Sure McGowan shouldn’t be using the Mercure but **** me the guy was allowed to leave the country and return for a ****ing wedding. I kept wondering how could there still be people stuck overseas unable to get home and here is part of the reason. Rich people with deep pockets buying there way in and out - just like the “movie stars” and “pop artists”. I don’t care how lovely he is, Ed Sheehan and his family were allowed in for a funeral and there’s others who haven’t been allowed to leave to say goodbye to their loved ones. That’s on the federal government and their approval process. They need to get everyone home, then shut the hotel system down and then leave the comings and going’s of the rich and famous to the federal govt.

Hotels were supposed to be a short term solution, not permanent and it’s about time the federal government took some responsibility for something and actually started doing something about a permanent purpose built quarantine centre in Australia.

Yes, we know he caught it in WA, but the Victorian leadership aren't mindlessly droning on about him acquiring it in WA, unlike McGowan mindlessly droning on about him being from Victoria and being a Victorian.

Quick look over there while they're code yellow and ramping at our hospitals.

I've made up my mind as much as you've made up yours.

And why aren't you bothering? Not at the end of your tether are you?

The media also consistently report 'Victorian man'. I cited examples above.

It's because when I present you with the facts that challenge your point of view, you just ignore it. Or divert (eg the code yellow comment) - did I ever say I think it's not a State government issue? Been on the record numerous times with criticisms of quarantine failings, the handling of that container ship a few months back etc. I like to think we can separate the facts, do you?

Anyway, I think posters are sick of me being a McClown fanboi in this thread so I'll let you have the last word HHH and Spitty. Stay safe.

If landlords can visit properties to do unneccesary maintenance and inspections and people can still attend weddings then by all means go visit family and friends if you want and leave others alone.
