I think its a good practical gift that will help her out, dont see the problem.

There is a second curiosity here in engaging in such talk with co-workers, but it is probably just me that avoids all personal/small talk with them as much as humanely possible.

We were just chatting about our homelab setups and I mentioned it in passing

It’s less that I care what they think and more that in retrospect I reckon they’re right - she was pretty underwhelmed by the waterproof Spotify player I got her for her 40th, and although she used it a lot (she’s a big swimmer) she would have preferred jewellery or something traditional

Mate, I've seen that episode of Mr Inbetween, and think its utterly stupid to go down this path, but there you go.
