Was their overall finals record this season OK? Lost 2 from 3 and only beat a ragged Freo at home, travelling with a limited break. How did Tippy go on a decent tall back?

Finals is a different season - as we found out 10 years ago. Tippet is a spud but the crows set up with two big KPF's and kicking to 50/50 contests allows all their little blokes to crumb.

But against Sydney they got enough of the ball inside 50, but their shit kicking for goal especially early, just like the hawks today, and inefficent use of the ball inside 50 cost them. The inside 50's were 59-37 in Adelaides favour. The midfield and even defenders did their job that day. Their forwardline failed.

Today the inside 50's were 64-38 in the hawks favour.

My impression of the game at the time that Adelaide got a bit of a rough deal with the umpires. There were a few decisions where they were very unlucky like the ridiculous Thompson in the back decision and the Tippett handball/throw was a bit harsh considering how they don't seem to call incorrect disposal unless it is blatant anymore. However, I think that should be well down the list in terms of their "things to blame", Rutten made a couple of critical errors, Vince's missed sideways kick gifting Rioli a goal, the utterly ridiculous decision to play Petrenko*.

They have done a very very good job of turning their young players who appeared to be mediocre in 2010/11 into more than solid AFL footballers.

They are not as good a side as Hawthorn, but they showed them up today and gave them a hell of a scare. I don't buy that they will automatically improve next year, like West Coast were supposed to after their rise last year, like West Coast in 2011 they had a very good run with injuries and got a lot out of their older players returning from injuries. They'll be thereabouts, but you can just as easily say that about Sydney, Hawthorn, Collingwood, West Coast, Fremantle, Geelong, North, heck even with the change of coach and the addition of Cloke, Carlton.....

*Whichever team brings back McGlynn or Guerra based on emotion next week, I am willing to bet loses.

This year's finals series has shown how much the draft has evened up the competition at least at the top end. And conversely how being a bit off your game can be catastrophic. North were a very good side coming into the finals but had a bad one and were demolished. Freo could easily have won last week and tipped the crows out in straight sets then the crows nearly beat Hawthorn who were a 10 goal favourite going by the ridiculous odds.

I can agree with this. The problem is that it's the top end talent that will pull your arse out of the fire in a close game. So the third or fourth that they actually finished this year is about right.

As we saw with Sewell and Burgoyne with centre clearaces and Cyril in the forwardline. Buddy got the ball in the last quarter but just could kick the crucial goals. (I was going to say he didn't kick straight but he never does, there is always a hook.)

Just watched it again, agree with that, the only decision I was dirty on was the soft reversal going to Porps & him kicking a goal.

The rest of the game was well umpired, IMO.

Thought the umpiring was average to be honest, the head lock on Rutten only for Buddy to get the kick, The umpire 150 Metres off the ball calling a throw on the crow running the boundary when he clearly tapped it on, How ever there wasn't that much bad umpiring that it cost them the game, what cost them the game was conceding 30 more inside 50's or whatever it was, They played well, they earned some respect for a gutsy effort, Dangerfield's last was quite impressive and Tippet played his best game all year,

I agree though that there top end talent isn't quite in the elite and whilst there depth is great, it is the stars that will get you out of trouble, When the Hawks were under the pump, Brad Sewell sliced the crows to pieces, when he went quiet Mitchell took over, then Cyril actually done something and took over, thats there strength, and something the Crows dont have.

In the end I was happy to finally have a game this series that went to the wire, Hoping for a Sydney win. That is all
