The Recruit.....additional Sept draft?

A MEETING of clubs midway through the finals series for a special NAB AFL Draft could see a local footballer make an AFL list.

The AFL announced on Saturday it would hold the draft meeting on Wednesday, September 17, for all clubs wishing to consider picking a player from the reality show 'The Recruit'.

All clubs can participate in the draft meeting, but it is not compulsory, with elements of the selection process to be revealed during the show's screening.

If a club selects a player, he will be placed on its category B rookie list, which has previously been reserved for players of alternative talent, like former basketballers or international recruits.

To be eligible for the show, contestants had to be 20 years of age leading into this year, and may not have been on an AFL list before or on a VFL, SANFL or WAFL club list in the past two years.

Former Brisbane Lions coach and club legend Michael Voss has taken on the role of head coach for the series, which has the AFL commission's backing.

"The dream to play AFL football is held by thousands and thousands of players across our country, with only the elite getting to run on the ground for an AFL match," AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said.

“Many many players, who are very fine footballers, have not been able to get that opportunity to discover if they are good enough to play at the highest level, for a host of different reasons.

"'The Recruit' has gone out to find those players who are outside our traditional pathways and give them opportunity to impress.

Is this for real? Now AFL is part of a reality TV show. Very odd.

Waylon Manson is a freak and is on this show

Well evidently this show has generated so much interest that Foxtel is in the early stages of doing a similar program with coaches. They get 18 "coaching" recruits - one for each club - and then they narrow it down. Foxtel has got a preliminary agreement with the AFL that the coaching recruits will get to handle a VFL side during their audition. The interesting thing is that Foxtel is looking at the BF forum to provide some of the recruits. It seems that some of the high profile posters on BF might be asked to audition for the role of recruit in the coming months.....

You may laugh but watch this space..... there are people associated with AFL clubs who have been looking at the BF forums for some time and are impressed with what they see. Didnt that Dave guy get some job posting his weekly thing on the Collingwood site? ...well the floodgates are about to open...

I think this is true given most of the ideas I put forward get implemented by bucks shortly after I've posted them, the most recent being my insisting that bucks should apologise to witts, which he did publicly after much strong debate by me on this forum.
I'm quite sure maxwell will have been made to apologise to fasolo also, behind closed doors..

Can he live in Melbourne in AFL pressure cooker environment?
Manson was shocked and surprised he wasnt drafted in 2011(i dont know he was shocked, he had a breakdown after 1 day in melbourne if i remember correctly), and he has stated he wants to play AFL more than anything or something like that. I think this show is somewhat of a warm up for the AFL lifestyle, so if he can get through this he will get picked up by an AFL side.

Yer, I remember that (his apparent breakdown on day 1 of the 2011 draft combine).
Hence all clubs put a line thru his name.
I truly hope he can make it.
