I've gotta say that this extended protection around the player with the ball and fifty metre penalty for encroaching is doing my ****ing head in. They can't be serious that this was a problem worthy of attention. Kill me now if they ****ing persist with stupid ****ing rule.

Every person at the ground today - man, woman, child and player was completely flummoxed by the umpires attempts to police the rules.

The fact that they have introduced the 10m rule for the pre-season, only serves to indicate that the umpires were not policing the 5 metre rule strictly enough.I've gotta say that this extended protection around the player with the ball and fifty metre penalty for encroaching is doing my ******* head in. I must admit, based on my observations so far, the appointment of Wayne Campbell to the Umpiring Department has been a backward step.

I repeat the call to embrace the Mayan system of umpire interaction....which is of course to execute them at the end of every game. It would be the only feel good after siren experience a Carlton supporter will get all year.

She was probably the best performed umpire out there.
Thank the maker that the 10m rule is only in NAB. The umpires gave no leeway yesterday when enforcing the rules. No warnings, just blow the whistle. I was screaming at my old man 'Why do they have to give an instant free? Why can't they tell the players to clear out once or twice as a warning? Why aren't they telling the player on the mark to come back a metre?'
Was doing my head in. Not minutes after saying that, you could hear her on the TV telling players to come back on the mark.
Would be great to see her umpire some seniors games this year.
the rules are rubbish and so many non calls for teams end up with a goal to the other team

the 50 m penalty is being poorly used lately. Should be used for serious infringements or professional type fouls.
Bring back the 15m rule ffs

Agree that the use of 50m penalty is getting out of control
I recall it was increased to 50m from 15m due to professional free kicks being given away as it slowed the opposition down
What bugs me is how does standing 2.5m from your opponent rather than 2m warrant a 50m?
And surely 50m penalties shouldnt be applied against guys who are running into the base of a marking contest and the guy who marks it milking free kicks on the way back to his spot (no time was wasted as he didn't stop him from taking his shot on goal - therefore it doesn't warrant 50m)
We share our ground with the umps so did one of the boys play a practical joke on them or did we run over one of their dogs?
