In its prime nothing comes close. But sadly it's now had more terrible seasons (by any standard) then good.

Needs to fold asap and salvage its reputation - it's cringeworthy bad now.

It was an excellent show. Then after 1998 it went downhill pretty quick.

Season 1 and 2 are shit. Seasons 19 and 20 are great.

I concur.

$$$.

it's why it's going nowhere. as long as people keep watching it and as long as it keeps making money, it'll stay on TV.

"you don't win friends with salad" is the first thing that pops into my mind the second someone mentions eating a salad. or when I want to give my best mate shit since he's a vegetarian. :thumbsu:

I get more lulz out of The Simpsons these days compared to when I was a kid. The amount of jokes that went over my head is actually amazing :D
True for the first 9 - 10 seasons. This was the Simpsons greatest strength IMO. The episodes pitched on multiple levels. Sure early seasons had the crude jokes and lines, but they weren't all the episode, and worked well because they were alongside jokes that went right over kids heads - or the best ones that were simultaneously at both levels, but obviously only an adult would get the fact.

The dumbing down after the first 10 seasons to rarely have a joke my 5 yr. old couldn't get was where the show died. Still for the epic quality of the first ten seasons and the number of quotable lines from those it is and will likely remain for at least the next 20 - 30 years the biggest show. Now if they'd just hurry up and can it.

Though I don't think even the gold seasons of 1 - 10 (thanks to Homer Simpson everyone in Old Springfield is now having golden showers :p ) ever came close to yanking the emotions like Jurassic Bark. That was just in a league of it's own for what a cartoon can make you feel.

Season 6, episode 2: Lisa's Rival.

The episode where Homer almost falls in love with the Country Singer is another that I think goes beyond the realms of comedy and touches the heart strings. Great ep.

hard to name a favourite episode lol. Every week I watch an episode and think it is the best, but the next week I watch an episode that is better.

I'll be interested in seeing how durable the Simpsons is when it finally goes off the air.

It's certainly an enormous pop culture phenomenon, but pop culture by definition is incredibly transient. I often wonder whether my children will love the Simpsons like I do, or see it as outdated.

Lisa on Ice for mine (the ice hockey episode).
