Looks like all the Freo knockers are a little off 12 months down the track on this trade. They thought they won but with Reimers and Houli progressing well think we might have done another one over on them.

We got Reimers and Houli (with the picks 43 and 47) who have both been nominated for NAB rising star and they got an angry man who watches a lot of footy.

Pretty bad that when he went to the tribunal he got references from Hird, Sheedy and Rama, no one from freo seemed willing to help him and he has only has issues in the last 8 years in his 2 seasons at the dockers.

Still have a soft spot for Solly but definitely a great decision

I agree that this trade is turning into an absolute ripper for us. Solly wasn't exactly an angel at Essendon (had one of the worst tribunal records on our list), but has definitely lost the plot since crossing the nullarbor.

However - IIRC we also parted with pick 52 to attain picks 42 & 47 - so arguably Reimers may have slipped 5 more picks anyway? Freo took Brock O'Brien with that pick, who played his 3rd match on Sunday, so we may need to monitor his progress too to determine the net worth of this trade.

But at this point in time we appear to have off-loaded a player with < 80 games left in him & an unproven youngster for 2 kids with a combined potential 300+ games in them!

Solly + Brock O'Brien v Houli + Reimers.

I think we know who won that one ;)

Nah Solly might have been tough but very very "undisciplined" - he would give away free kicks at crucial times. NOT ON...

Extremely happy with the trade :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

200+.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves, less than 1% of players make it to 300 games.

I'm still hoping Houli comes back!

But yeah, we went well in drafting this kids. I doubt Fremantle would actually draft the same kids though if they kept the pick.

Anyway, Kyle's hair is actually turning blonde again.:D

Kevin Sheedy gets criticised heavily for his trading for second hand players frequently, however in this instance he deserves a pat on the back as these two look to be potential stalwarts of the club.

I remember watching Houli as a kid and i thought he was going to go top 20 so i was happy when we got him. I remember Reimers tearing it up at Bendigo last year so i thought he would be good too.
I was happy with the trade as soon as we picked these two kids, but i'll always have a soft spot for Solly.

I love sheedy as much as the next bombers person, but Riemers, Houli, Lonergan etc never got game time under Sheedy who continually went ahead with players like Mark Johnson and Jason Johnson, Solomon, Micheal. the type of players who might have won him a game last year to keep his job, rather than a fresh face for the future. With games this year, Riemers, Houli & Lonergan look sensational, had they been playing under sheedy i fear that they would be playing at bendigo.

Reimers wasn't playing good enough to warrent an AFL call up until towards the end of the year, and shone in our finals game.
I think Longergan was injured a bit.
I remember Houli getting dropped through the year last year, but when Sheedy knew he was on the way out he really pushed playing kids.

Houli also had injuries and both Houli and Reimers were first year players, they've had the advantage of another pre-season.

Reimers wasn't fit enough to run out of sight last year. Don't blame Sheedy, it's the natural course of progression for both.

On Solly, he's been very good for Freo, one incident doesn't change that. He'd be top 3-4 in their B&F at the moment.

If I here this crap one more time I'm going to need an ambulance!

Sheedy played both Houli anmd Reimers last year - in their firsr season of footy - as well as every single other first year player! He diod that routinely through his career too.

Lonergan was injured for the bulk of last season and was not up to it in his first.

You are making comments that just aren't true!

I think the difference this year is that the kids have been given a fair go and have consistently played in the ones. Not dropped after one game.

We'll agree to disagree then. Myers is the only first year player "given a fair go" thus far by Knights. Sheedy played every kid last season when they weren't up to it. It was the equivelant of Knights playing Hooker, Bellchambers etc.

It's irrelevant to this thread, but it just annoys me when people comment so bluntly, yet have nothing to back it up. Lonergan played, then injured, same with Hislop, Jetta.

It wasn't through a lack of want on Sheedy's part that the "kids" didn't play more games...

Well said Big Scott, Knighter would have played Gumby, Hislop, Dempsey and others more, sheedy would also have played them if they weren't injured.

Lonergan played a couple and only stopped playing when got injured, like winderlich he seems to get injured when he starts to cement a spot.

Next year NAB rising star should be between Hislop and Gumbleton, both real high picks in the superdraft and both the future..
