Yeah a mate of mine reckons Tassie was like the wild west with guns until the law changes.

Fireworks were even more full-on, as kids we'd just fight with them like they were slingshots or water balloons, aim at bodies, heads etc.. Pretty decent rockets that exploded at the end were 5 cents each, could fire one of them 70-80m with a pipe to launch it, 5-ball shooters were 10 cents, you could get a few dozen mates with a couple of bucks each together and have some pretty insane cracker wars.

Wouldn't surprise me if there were more injuries and deaths from them than guns overall in that era.

I don't eat them but my dad and brother love them, they cut them in half and cook them on the BBQ. Was weird the first time I saw it, now it's a regular at all their BBQs it doesn't stand out
