You don't fancy Rance and Sloane? I see Rory Sloane as the Mzungu replacement.
Every club in the League fancies Sloane. Us just picking him up next year is beyond dreaming. He, like Tex and Danga is not leaving the Crows. As for Rance, that would depend on how the Tigers do next year, how we do next year and the amount of money we offer. Even if everything lines up our recent strike rate of getting players to come across (even when trying to lure former sandgropers) suggests we're no favorites to get his signature.

Then you have to think realistically about the possiblity of us landing both of them, in the one trade/FA period.

I just don't see that happening, whatsoever.

It's the gist not the players. Every single year with free agency, you will find supporters of each club going 'oh, next year's FA is much better, look who we can get then!'. It never happens. 90% of the players re-sign during the year (see Hawks supporters "getting Mundy next year") or go to different clubs (see "Frawley a lock for Geelong"). As a club which has difficulty attracting big-name free agents or trade targets, and does not seem to massively benefit from a go-home factor, we are now going to get a borderline AA backman and an A grade mid next year?

Banking on filling holes in your list with specific free agents who almost certainly won't be available is absolute lunacy.

So west coast may get Varcoe as well. I'm feeling a bit bummed you know. I feel like every team that will be challenging in the 8 next year seem to be strengthening their lists and filling holes that they have. Hawks, Geelong, port, north, essendon, collingwood, WC, Gold Coast. They are all just improving their teams in ways that have been lacking .

I'm seeing people on here saying our team is fine, injuries hurt us etc but we have some serious holes in KPP and I feel we are going to get nothing of value this trade period and it is going to hurt
Simmo, I agree with you on this.
However it doesn't seem to be that simple.
For us this year, the mid tier improvement is tricky. Even with Kepler and Gumby's retirement, we still need to delist one more player. Probably one of Duffy, Hannath or Simpson. Bringing in a mid tier guy would mean having to drop another one out of the above 3. It may not be worthwhile.

At the top tier, most teams have wised up and re-signed their FAs way before season ended (like we did with Mundy). Frawley was the best available and we made a strong offer for him, it's too bad it didn't work out :(

I actually liked the ideas where we go crazy and shoot for Nick Riewoldt. We just need him for short term anyway. But it may mean losing Duffy long term (see above) for his short 1 or 2 year sting, not even considering the picks we'll lose, it may not seem worthwhile again.

Let's just see what happens. We'll still be in contention with our current list as it is. Don't really want the club to trade for the sake of trading if it's purely speculative.

And? Sloane is a grade one midfielder not a defensive mid.

Sloan would cost the world
He is a restricted free agent. Adelaide are going to have to wear a massive salary cap hit to keep all three of Walker, Dangerfield and Sloane and I expect Sloane to be the one that slips out.

I would be floating the idea with their management already so they can "put off contract talks until the end of the year".

Sloane is very loyal, him and Walker will sign with Adelaide.

I am not sure about Danger.

Yeah, true. Don't know if I'd want to do that deal myself. Bondy and the boys would have to have a target in mind to go hard for pick 2/3. 13 and Neale is a tough one alright.
Pick 13 and neale for pick 3? Wouldn't think the club would have to think too hard on that. I'd do that in a heart beat.

I'm sure they'd be asking lachie's thoughts on the matter if that was the deal.

Dees would want something more for pick 3 though. Is an extremely high pick.

I would rather keep Neale and back our recruiters to find a Gem at pick 13.

Trade Neale?! He is playing like a top 10 pick at the moment and everyone wants to trade him. Such a disruption to the playing list would leave a bad taste. Other players would think that even when they're playing well they're on the block.

Neale is a (injuries permitting) a 200 game player and a fantastic, proven centreman. We'd be odds on to snare a gun with pick 3, but I reckon we'd still get a decent player at 13. At the end of the day, Neale is a proven player whilst, the draft is a risk. Different people will have different views, but I personally while not totally ruling it out, wouldn't be jumping to do that exchange.

I'd say it is highly likely he'll be going on the Rookie List.
There is danger in that though. To move him from the main list which I think he is still on to rookie list means we have to delist him and pick him up in the rookie draft. That risks another club taking him ahead of us - given he was touted a top 5 draft pick on talent, using a rookie pick on him is not a big risk for another club. Eagles for example...

I'd like to think there was still some ethics in football. I can't recall such a thing ever happening before.

I'm happy to take 13 into the draft, getting into the top 10 just gets too rediculous too quickly to be worth the talent we'd have to give up. What I'd really like is to see Freo find a way to turn pick 34 into a pick in the low twenties, or secure one outright.

At the end of 2016, he's from the 2008 draft. This year was the first free agents from 2006 draft (Frawley), next year is the 2007 drafts (Walker, Dangerfield, Rance etc).

Yeah I agree, if we don't get a quality player at 13, we never will, we have had picks from 16 or later for awhile? GWS I think had a pick around
12+ and nabbed McCarthy, the top ten normally picks itself, and after that always a curve ball by some club.
