I hate violence but am not afraid to resort to it if necessary. I was beaten up regularly in high school for about a month because "she felt like it". Another girl within that group told me it would continue to happen unless I hit back - I finally reached that point where I smacked the absolute shit out of that bitch until her nose was plastered across her face - didn't realise that I was actually quite good at the whole fighting stuff. Never had another bitch get in my face again - I've also never been in another fight since. I think the thing was My confidence improved with that fight which in turn changed my body language to "don't **** with me"

Was anyone here educated and brought up to never hit/never hit back in the school yard? If so how do you feel about it in hindsight?

A don't **** with me vibe definitely helps but I don't know if violence would work with blokes, because you might deck the one guy but he could easily just bring his friends over next time.

Exactly, it earns you some sort of reprieve in the school yard, but in the real world what you've said is 100%.

The old one on one out the front and earn each others respect one way or the other is long gone. The loser just comes back and in greater numbers than before, not dissimilar to the sand people of Tatooine. There is nothing to be gained by fighting in the streets. I'm a pro fight person. Kids should know how to fight in school for certain situations, I enjoy combat sports, and I even enjoy punch ons in non combat sports, but I can't stress enough how little fighting accomplishes outside of those things. A culture shift can't come soon enough.

Tangent, I was talking to a mate once who had Americans stay with him, they went out for a drink together and the yanks started a fight. When he asked why they were acting like dickheads, they replied it was because they've never been in one, cause everyone in America is too scared to as you don't know who's carrying a gun.

Also tangent, we once had a yank come to our school in year 10 or 11.

During class, there was a bloke at the back of the class rolling up scrap paper and trying to throw them in a bin or at someone else. Accidentally throws it at the back of the head of the yank. The new guy turns around and clocks him in the face.

This was his first and only day at the school. Got sent home and never seen again.

Damn, this post made me angry. Just know I was one of them kids who would stand up for the guy getting bullied. I was the only black kid in my school for most of my school life so I always copped racist shit and I was pretty short so I was an easy target. Once I got a lil bigger and a bit more confidence tho, nobody messed wit me and because I knew how it felt to be bullied I'd always put myself in situations to put bullies back in there place. 2 wrongs don't always make a right but in these cases it did.

I still have problems making new friends, meeting new people etc because of that stuff in childhood but it gets easier.

It's hard to tell at times if you're watching a walking race or just a bunch of people really busting for the toilet.
The way they walk looks so painful.

Really looks like an easy way to grind both your hip joints into early replacements.

My old man taught me to brawl. Like you said, but don't punch with a fist - always use an open hand. You can break their nose and knock their teeth out, rendering them unable to breathe if done properly.

Bout the only life lesson he ever gave.

My mums uncle was made to fight with his brother to teach them how, they would keep score with their own blood and if they pulled punched their dad would belt them. That sounds particularly brutal.

Good advice, you can really hurt someone with the palm

Sure you can blame them, but that doesn't change the fact that they might be different people now.

When I look back to how much I've changed since high school, how stupid I was and how not in control I was of my actions, it makes no sense to me to judge others based on how they were in high school.
I can tell you now, I'm, not giving them another chance. They can get on with their life, whatever that is now, so long as I never see one of them again.
I don't hate them, but I'm never going near them just in case.

That escalated quickly. Genuinely funny stuff. :thumbsu:

Why when I am feeling in a generous mood I never have change for the homeless/buskers. I mean I have notes but a note doesn't give you that nice sound of coins rattling together in a hat.

Haha. Wasn't that yet another thing covered on Seinfeld? I've done it before where I've put $5 or something in a tip jar but they've turned their back and didn't see it. Would have got more credit from dropping a couple of coins in there.
Yeah it's like an audible confirmation of your generosity, a note could blow away in the breeze so you really need some form of coinage as well. It can look like you're stealing from the homeless if you're just reaching into a hat to place a note.

When I just got to the US & went out with a mate in LA he basically said if anyone starts anything don't be tough just gtfo of there... they will either have a knife or a gun. Crazy.
