It's been a couple of years since I worked at Coles so I don't know if it has changed but we were told you are not allowed to turn anybody away from the self serve.

What about if they have a bomb?

Who decided trolleys aren't allowed in self serve? Its not a no trolley area, its a self service area. It shouldn't matter if I have one item or 100 items.

What about if everyone brought trolleys in there? No one could move!

Self service should be trolley free, in my opinion. It should only really be for those couple of items that you need to pick up and are in a hurry to leave. Also, it becomes very congested in the self service bullpen if everyone has trolleys
I'm very good with checkouts. Full trolley and I'm still out in 5 minutes.

Self checkout with a trolley would take hours.

It doesn't really. Besides at my Woolies there is lucky to be anything other than the express lane, the self checkout and maybe one other checkout open most of the time. I always take my trolley though the self checkout (mind you I'm not shopping for a family of five or anything).

Woolworths need to add a "remove item" function to their self-serve interface. Accidentally scanned an item twice as I couldn't find the barcode and when I asked for assistance the girl gave me attitude because "this happens all the time".

Coles recently updated their self-serve interface which will take some getting used to as they've moved options. Old people tend to avoid self-serve as it's too complicated for them.

Agree. Plus more ones that accept cash u dumb campaigners coles

I like self serve because I generally only have a basket and I can avoid banal chit chat and inefficient packing practices.

If you have a lot of stuff a regular till with little conveyor belt makes more sense. There's not enough space on a self serve till so you need to take stuff out of the trolley, pack a bag then put the bag into the trolley with the un-scanned stuff. #toohardbasket

Self service sucks. I use it, but it's far worse than it should be. I understand the limitations that exist to try and prevent people stealing (it still happens a shitload anyway) but it should be better. I work in a supermarket so use tills regularly and the self service ones don't compare. Within seconds at my work I can remove an item if I can it twice, I have to wait around like a dickhead if the scanner picks up an item twice in self service. Then every touch of the screen can take ages.

I can't wait for the day they bring in self service pubs, no more queuing up waiting for bartenders to serve you, just get in there and pour your own drinks.

I can't see that causing any problems at all.

Finally an even playing field between men and women at the bar.

I always feel like I'm being judged when I go through the self service at my Coles. The cranky Indian lady hovers over me like I'm going to steal something and doesn't even give me a chance to press anything. Like for instance when you have to click what kind of apples you are buying you all of a sudden get this arm come over your shoulder and press the screen for you

I went to a pub in Dublin that has self pouring facilities at each table. You help yourself and then they bill you at the end for consumption. Amazing concept.
Don't know how common it is now but was quite popular when i was living there 10 years ago. One of my first facebook profile pics was my mouth underneath the tap pouring straight in. good times. dangerous and expensive times. but good times.

Fair enough. But i enjoy paying absolutely no extra fees except for the monthly account keeping fee.
People still pay bank fees?

I have an account that doubles as a visa debit card and provided you make deposits of $2k a month there's not even an account keeping fee (which is only $5 anyway). Pay all my bills out of it and almost always pay with PayPass but can withdraw cash using an ATM or eftpos. The only time I pay a fee is i or my wife is stupid enough to use another banks ATM

I don't pay fees on my savings accounts, only the credit card. So you withdraw all your cash when you are paid or something?

I think you said you were applying for a mortgage soon? Word to the wise, I'd stop doing withdrawing all your cash (if that's what you do) otherwise you may be declined on the basis you may be a problem gambler.
