i agree
always get my sister to do it. while she has no experience, it is better then paying $16 at the hairdressers. She doesn't do too badly either

$16?!

Wont get a cut for that in many places unless you take your looks wityh a grain of salt and head to a shopping center.

$25 would be standard.

I skimp on lots of things, especially on things like :

toilet paper
donuts ($1 a dozen, and I'm pretty sure it tastes the same as Krispy Kreme)
undies
sex (usually get more mileage out of the cheapest deals, but then again my standards are low)
mp3 player (they all do a good job)

I pay top dollar on electronic items where there's simply no substitute for quality, like :

big LCD TV
Laptop

The single most over rated thing in the history of the world.

My last hair cut cost me $17.60 IIRC from a shopping centre, and yes, I dont give a shit how my hair looks...

Nor do I, hence a hair cut usually means me getting pissed at my hair getting in my eyes, going into the bathroom and pulling out the hair clipper...

always pay top dollar for:

well, not much really. i payed a lot for my last pair of shoes, and it's something i'll continue to do.

internet connection - not by choice... its just that paying top dollar for internet saved me money in the long run not needing a phone.

pants for work. nothing worse than a scratchy pair of pants.

never pay top dollar for:

most things. namely

meat, always wait til it's on special and buy up
wine - i think anyone who isn't a w***er can't tell the difference between an $8 bottle and a $20 bottle of red
whiskey - happy to pay $50 for glenfiddich - would not bay $170 for johnny walker blue
clothes (apart from work pants) - i'm dressed almost exclusively by target.
and condoment where there is no difference between generic brands and name brands
flights - it annoys me. if i know somethings coming up i'll book 4 months in advance. if i have to pay top dollar to get somewhere on short notice, i will often not go.
festival tickets - ebay has been very, very good to me.

oh, and yes, hair cuts... 7 years ago i was 18... i got drunk, had my attrocious beatles style hair going (because i was too stingy to go to the hairdresser more than once every three months). i was convinced that setting my hair on fire and shaving it would be a great idea.

miraculously, i wasn't hurt - and in the past 7 years i've paid a grand total of $22 for hair cuts with my clippers

Always pay top dollar for my mistakes, speeding, un-reg, peeing in public, etc

Never pay top dollar for clothing as I stock up on holidays in Asia.

always:
fruit/veg/meat/eggs - i'm pretty anal about organic and free-range stuff, even though it costs a fair bit more.
socks/jocks - dunno why, but a quality pair of socks or undies feels awesome.
squash rackets - i used to play a fair bit of squash, a top-notch racket makes a huge difference.
jeans - self-explanatory.
wine/beer - i'll usually spend a bit extra to get a good quality bottle of wine or some boutique 6-pack of beer.
personal grooming products - gotta look after yourself ;)
gifts - i feel guilty giving some lame, cheap gift, even to someone i barely know

never:
everything else, but especially:
cds/dvds - i'll always wait it out until an album or dvd i'm after is on special at jb.
accommodation - i'd rather sleep on a mate's floor or a backpackers'.
travel - carpooling and red-eye flights all the way.
furniture - $20 at a garage sale and it's just as good.
rent - i'd rather live in a cheap shithole and clean it up a bit.
cars - as long as it gets you from 'a' to 'b'.
