When I was younger I'd get the bus to Melbourne for the footy by myself (meet up with my cousin over there for multiple games a round)

The bus back to Adelaide often left late(ish) like nearly 10pm and I'd sit on the bus picturing what it would be like if I was still sitting at Waverley right now all empty and cold and freaky.

I'd picture where I was sitting at a packed stadium just a few hours before and how right now it would be pitch black and creepy.

Also as the bus drove through the suburbs out towards home I'd wish I was already home and see lights on in people's homes and imagine what they're doing all warm and having tea together.

Then the s**t bus movie starts lol

I used to think that about my under 12 home cricket ground, how where I was batting that day would be all dark and scary, weird

haha it is sort of creepy picturing these places full of life then become dead, ice cold dark places

But it's also a relaxing feeling, like Ahh I'm glad I'm not stuck there now

I enjoy listening to the traffic report on the radio if I'm working from home, i hope the roads I drive on are all busy ha ha

I still get a morbid sense of satisfaction when I hear the ring road is ****ed (which is pretty much most days) and I dont have to go on that bastard of a thing anymore.

I can confirm they are creepy places

This bought back memories of when I was about 8 or 10 my dad used to forget to pick me up after footy training and I would be left alone at the oval for hours after dark

This happened so regularly the coach ended up staying with me a few times and I think one time it was so late I went back to his place and had dinner with his family

I've been in cinema all alone, and schools all alone.

Extremely creepy places when they are deserted.
One time my friend and I were supposed to take a picture for art class so we took the opportunity to run around the school for the fun of it while it was 'empty' during class hours. 😂 We even went through the cross country course which was kinda sketch as it wasnt prepared so they were trees and shit fallen everywhere we had to navigate.

But I guess there's a difference between empty during class times and empty empty. (although we were pretty deserted considering nobody knew where we were)

Yep. Especially when staff are spread out all over the campus in separate offices.

It was worse being there in my office all alone, like everyone else had the day off (sometimes on those work days), I would lock myself in, in that instance.

Yeah I have to put the alarm on when leaving my work and a few times after everyone's left the alarm has gone off so I have to do a walk through of the place in the dark and Check all the doors.

The amount of creepy noises and shadows from red lights of machines turned off is like a movie.

But I've been there so many years I can walk through blindfolded and not hit anything lol

I’m pretty chill in the lone dark. Love long night walks without a torch and all.

Agree that places ordinarily experienced as crowded like a school or stadium can be eerie though. That last man on earth/evacuated town vibe. Once or twice I was tucked away in a remote part of a building and failed to notice an evacuation alarm and when you realise everyone had vanished it is a dawning silence that speaks volumes.

Entire floors of bookshelves and compactus units like a warehouse or archive repository with the temp sensor lights, they can on occasion feel sinister.

oooh like the opening scene of 28 Days Later?!

I would have loved to have lived in Melbourne CBD during lockdown. Creepy yes, but having the entire city to yourself, awesome.

I like to catch the bus during the day because I have no friends and then you can talk to people on the bus and there's nowhere they can go so it makes me feel like I have someone who cares about me

Yeah me too, would’ve thrived. Probably part of the reason I love Canberra lol, it’s like that Ian Richardson scene in Brazil (1985), a seemingly empty hallway with the occasional flurry of movement

When tennis had no crowds for a while there I secretly was thrilled for Sam Stosur, she’d be lovin that

A CBD is also pretty impersonal, more largely symbolic like the (spoiler I guess) Statue of Liberty gone to ruin in Planet of the Apes or something. Would be worse as a lone survivor returning to a household or school or fire station or something where the sense of loss is more tangible and palpable. Puts one in mind of that alienating moving out day feeling with the bare walls

I used to get the bus/train/drive from Adel to Melb probably close to 10 times a year back in the day that's how much I loved going to the footy.

Haven't been to Melb in a decade now.

Probably coincides with me getting a mortgage and nice GF.
