Thornton Rumour... again

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Why in God's name would we trade our most experienced defender? We have a back half full of kids. Do you guys seriously think the club would trade T-bird? The next most experienced down there would be Carrots. Our team would fall apart.

Thornton/Gibbs for Thorp/Boyle
Done deal.

See, i can make absolutly lopsided deals as well.

Hawthorn would rather play Thorp as the third tall defender rather then trade him for Thornton, The fact Thorp cant work up the fitness to run out box hill games is WHY he isnt getting a game.

Rumour is probably full of shit, we just won a premiership so i dont see why we would trade for Thornton

You got to remember we drafted Dowler/Thorp and have put 2-3 years into both of them having pretty serious injury concerns, like **** hawthorn would give them away for anything bar top 10 picks, Sorry im not being the raging fanboy, their potential worth means hawthorn would rather keep hold of both of them, unless your throwing pick 6 in.

Do you recall the 4th quarter of Round 21? I haven't seen J Brown owned like that in some time...

I also remember the first three quarters.

I'd rather keep him, but if the player doesn't want to be there, then there's no point keeping a half-hearted player.

What's the deal with SEN saying Thornton wants out again, and wants to head to the Hawks again?

i'm sick of having players at our club who don't want to be there. No player is bigger than the club. You think you are, you'll get shown the door.

If he doesnt want to play for the best club in the world, trade him and move on, we only want people who want to play for us.

But he does want to play for the best club.

Seriously, as a club, you cannot try and poach or steal away players from every other club and then cry if it happens to you.

Hawks won't trade Thorp for anything.............very highly rated.

But I would except Thornton & 3 rd selection 4 Dowler (CHF) & Hawks 2nd round selection.

If Thornton goes to hawthorn he won't get a game, why the hell does he wanna go?

Whos crying, if you look at most the posts you can f**ken have him.

This another thread where we spend many pages on nothing.

Has anyone heard he actually wants to leave other than some silly caller on SEN?

God - the Thornton rumour again!!!! When will this end?

That said, If true (this time) IMO Carlton should consider it.

Many trades offered as possibilities by posters on this board are ludicrous. Aside from Denis Pagan and the Fremantle football club, no one consistently trades good picks or good players for recycled hacks or players that clearly are never going to make it.

I dont mind Thornton. Generally solid. Has some bad games. But when he's good, he is actually quite good.

Contrary to he opinions of some on this board, he's actually a reasonably solid defender. Currently not the best in the leauge but far from the worst. Probably never going to be a genuine star. Has had next to no support down back for years, in possibly the busiest backline in the leauge.

That said, he's one of those good, solid but not outstanding players at the club we could consider trading (along with perhaps Fisher and Carrots. Possibly Russell - give him 1 more year). He has experience, has proven he can perform and would benefit from being freed up as a second or third defender (as he showed this year prior to injury).

Thus, he has the currency to be worth something of value in a Trade.

Some players are stars. They get kept. Some players are spuds. They get de-listed. Some players are probably spuds but you never know. They get used as sweetners (players that cost nothing dollar wise to the club but fill a spot and maybe - just maybe - they'll turn it all around). Some players are solid contributors without being stars. Or they may be one or two dimensional. These are the players you consider trading.

Why? Because they have value. To the right club, that value is possibly more than it is worth to us.

If we can engineer a 2nd Rounder for Thornton - Id be happy with that.

Thornton for Boyle

Thoughts Blue's supporters? Jamison, Waite, Bower = 3 key defenders, with O'hailpin and hopefully Austin after another pre-season next in line

Thought you would want to have enough back line options to push Waite forward a bit more often could solove the CHF problem
