I know it seems like I'm dumping on the guy, but I feel some of posters here need to understand where Mitch Thorp is in the context of the Hawthorn/Box Hill system.

I hope he plays well enough to put his name in contention soon - kicking a bag this weekend would be a good start.

However, unless Hawthorn send Roughead into defence, I think he'll have to wait until Boyle strings together some ordinary performances - which hopefully won't occur.

I think Dowler & Thorp could both play down back with the abundance of KPP we have! A lot of great forwards were great defenders first

Dowler is not a natural defender. infact, in his draft profile his biggest weakness was listed as looking a bit lost in defense. He's a natural forward and will play there at AFL level.

Cant say I agree Uni. Thorp has great footskills on both sides. He played down back for Tassie. Dowler seems to be a mark and kick player.

Probably too early to pidgeon hole either of them.

Regardless, I hope both get to the stage where their BHH form is so irresistable that they force a spot in the ones.

to be honest i havent seen much of Thorpe or Dowler to give a decent opinion, all i know is what ive read and seen in the couple of appearances they've made in the seniors!

can someone who's in the know give me an honest assessment of where they're both at??

From what ive read/heard Thorpe has all the makings of a superstar and i remember hearing the Triple MMM boys say last year that he already has a 'Carey like' strut out on the field?!?!

Dowler i know even less about, i saw him play for the seniors down in Tassie but he looked like a fish out of water from what i could tell.... going by the little i know about both it sounds as though Thorpe is a Forward and shouldn't be played anywhere else whereas Dowler is a Roughead type and could play down back if needed?!?

Not necessarily.

At least 1 of the 3 emergencies would be expected to travel to WA with the rest of the team. Thorp was named as 1 of the emergencies.

Jarryd Morton is originally from Claremont, so this could be a possibility...
